Chapter 5: 2 Years Timeskip!
"What's wrong?" asked Arthur as he looked at Roxy who was just standing by herself extending her hand as if trying to cast a magic spell but she looked even more dejected because nothing came out of her palm.
Arthur wasn't clueless, his and Rudeus talent in magic had left Roxy with her confidence at an all time low. Her insecurities weren't really that hidden since even Roxy herself had openly confessed them during one of their night study sessions where Rudeus had called her 'master'.
To Roxy being referred to as 'master' was an undeserving title and she had a lot of insecurities from being from the Migurd tribe. Arthur and Rudeus both could already guess that this is what Roxy was used to hearing on a regular basis.
"That sounds about right!" Thought Arthur with a sigh, this is how humans are. No matter how advanced humans become as a civilization, humans are driven by emotion rather than logic.
Jealousy. This was what the others had felt whenever seeing Roxy's talent in magic, in a country where advanced magicians are regarded to be impressive and are capable of finding a job anywhere they go, someone like Roxy who is Saint Water Magician will be likely hired to work as a tutor in the royal castle.
Since they can't harm her physically, the next best course of action was to harm her emotionally. Make a jab at her being a demon or the fact that under certain sunlight her hair becomes green like Superdia which Arthur was sure many had definitely tormented her for it which would explain her nervousness at the start.
He didn't underestimate how much training Roxy must have put in order to become a Water saint Magician. From leaving home to coming to live among humans, Roxy has strived every day to prove others wrong and increase her value and standing among citizens who will discriminate against her.
In that sense, her confidence in her ability at the start was understandable as naturally not many can achieve the level of her power. She was humbled after her first meeting with both Arthur and Rudeus who both are capable of casting [Voiceless Incantation] something she had never seen before nor heard about.
"E-eh...Nothing just stretching my arm." Roxy lied through her teeth which Arthur easily caught on to. It made him wonder should he point it out or should he be considerate and leave her be.
Arthur doubted that [Voiceless Incantation] was something that he had created himself because he was sure there are bright people out there who can do the same thing but it was probably not taught and probably passed down orally for many reasons that come to his mind.
It's basically similar to how Teleportation was deemed Forbidden because it may trigger a war. If people can use [Voiceless Incantation], magic won't have some form of limiter and this will allow people to throw around random spells that could possibly nuke the entire continent.
Chants were the equivalent of hand signs in his old world. If people in his old world were capable of throwing around many Jutsu just by the wave of their own hand without needing hand signs then things would have been far more catastrophic for everyone since wars would have increased in lethality.
