better safe than sorry?

"...why are you laughing, dekisugi-kun?" he asks in his always cheery voice that maintained it's pitch even when he was sad, or confused.

"nothing that you need to worry about" i say and get off the bed making sure i take the shirt with me- i realise it's not even wet enough for my hairs to soak up that much water.

"why is this actually dry?" i turn around with the shirt in my right hand as i look at nobita-kun picking up the glass that i was unaware of all this time.

suddenly, something clicks in my mind.

"right! i brought you water, that's why it splashed onto me as we fell" i snap my fingers and quickly stand up,"well, sorry for that"

i say as he keeps looking at me with eyes i really couldn't read. it's almost the first time I can't read someone thoroughly, he must have a really thick wall built between us. almost as if I'm his opponent in a chess game, so I can't see through him—

"you're really different from what everyone sees you like" he says, slowly getting up from the bed and walking closer to me.

what was that change in tone of voice?

"we all thought you were some god-made picture perfect guy with no human flaws or emotions" i blink slowly looking at him with no thoughts.

is he finally turning off the facade and hating me openly now? because of shizuka-chan-

"what i mean is, you're pretty much human! and interesting too, on top of that" he suddenly breaks his stern expressions into a sweet smile.

are we really playing chess...?

i decide it's better if I don't say anything back, or rather, i didn't know what to say. there have been times when people left me speechless at their dumbness, or excellence, but I've never been left speechless directly like this.

am i supposed to mock him? or am i supposed to ask him what he meant? or am i supposed to accept the somewhat of a compliment? or should i just let it go like i do with everyone else?

i leave the room and put his clothes into the washing machine while I'm lost in thought, and my phone vibrates. i take it out only to be bombarded by texts from yuki.
