STAND

Hearing Mr. Zen say those words were freeing. His sons had anger on their faces, but I continued to remain calm.

"If that's what you think..."

Minyu interrupted. "No...it's what he knows."

"Well, I guess the meeting is over."

I got up from my seat, then Mr. Zen began to speak.

"You can fix this, Rin...You still can be a part of this family and be beneficiary of my will and testament. You will be a very rich man."

I looked at him.

"Marry my daughter and defend her honor. She is carrying your child."

I shook my head at his words.

"Listen Hebi...you will have more than enough money to take care of your child with Violet."

"I will not take the blame for your daughter's child. You all know that child isn't mine."

I bowed in respect to my elder, then began walking away.

"Hebi, you are making a big mistake walking away from this family. If you leave, you are no longer welcome back....ever."

His words hurt like a father telling his son the same. I took a deep breath, letting it sink in.

"Take care of yourself, Kenji Zen."

His eyes widened at me, calling him by his first name...which I never did before.

I walked out slightly hurt but with a smile. It was time to tell Violet the great news.

While Rin was out, I decided to practice my opera singing. It always calmed me and took me into another world.

I was beginning to feel little flutters in my abdomen...my baby was growing, and I was happy.

I began reading the music notes and memorizing the different languages of the songs.

Then I came across Jessye Norman's rendition of Purcell's 'When I am laid with earth'. Her voice sent me into space as I closed my eyes, feeling every note she sang.

I thought about my parents, then my grandmother. I wished she was here to see my pregnancy and meet my child. I smiled with tears in my eyes because I knew she was watching me.

My voice began to take over the song that I was listening to, and I stood up and lifted my head high, letting my voice express my feelings.

When I was finished, I was surprised to see Rin standing in the doorway. He had a big bouquet of violet flowers.

"Hey baby..."

He said no words while he walked towards me. His kiss softly touched my lips, and I closed my eyes.

I watched him get down on one knee...my heart skipped a beat.

"Violet, you are an amazing woman. I can't see myself living without you. I know it seems soon, but I'm deciding to follow my heart."

He pulled out a small black box from his suit jacket. He opened it up, and my hand touched my stomach.

"Violet Tanisha Edwards....will you marry me?"

Through sobs of surprise and happiness, I said..."Hell yeah!"

Rin laughed, then rose to his feet. He had no time to put the ring on me before my kisses covered his lips and face.

After celebrating and making love, we laid in bed eating junk food and watching movies. I told Violet everything that happened with Mr. Zen and she began to look nervous.

"Baby, I'm sorry all of this is happening."

"It's not your fault. I mean, I did get you pregnant...on purpose."

She began to laugh, and I enjoyed every second.

"I'm going to look for a job once the baby is almost a year old. I think I may be comfortable with daycare by then."

I laughed, and she looked confused.

"What's so funny?'

"You act like we're going to be homeless or something."

"Well Rin, we both just lost our jobs...I do have savings but..."

I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and opened a few apps. I handed it to her and waited.

"What is this?"

"Just look at it, then you tell me."

After a few seconds, Violet sat up touching the screen with her finger, then began scrolling.

"Rin!"

I smiled. "What?"

"Are you serious?!"

"About what?"

She gave me a stern look. "Nishimura, whose money is this?"

I grabbed my phone from her. "I'm offended..."

"Wait, it's yours?! How the hell..." She took the phone back out of my hand, and I laughed.

"Yes, baby...it's mine. As you can see we'll be just fine without you working....ever again."

She stared at the screen, then gave me back the phone. I sat it on the nightstand and continued watching the movie.

"Is it bad that I am really horny right now?" She asked, staring at the TV.

I smiled. "Not at all."

She jumped on me, and I was ready. As soon as she eased down on my erection, security notifications started going off on my phone.

Motion detected, hallway. System armed.

Violet ignored it and kept riding me. She was slippery wet...I had no choice but to let her finish, it felt too fucking good to stop.

I pressed the intercom then spoke. "What do you want?"
