They win.
They win.
Nick screams with joy as teammates pile on top of him, chanting his name over and over again. His final try brought them over the line with just seven seconds to spare, so even though it's a win by the skin of their teeth, it's still a win and Nick did it.
It's all a bit of a blur as he stands up again, dazed from the shock of it all and also the fact that he's the one that scored the winning points. Manchester played hard and they played well, and the game was neck and neck for a good long while there, but Nick and Pete were able to pull it back in the final minutes to make it a solid victory for the University of Leeds.
They fucking won.
He spits out his mouth guard and then heads over to shake the hand of the Manchester team captain, then he works his way through the rest of the team. It seems that they're not that bothered and are perfectly friendly about it, which honestly might have more to do with the fact that it's too hot to stay on this pitch much longer than anything, but they're gracious enough and congratulate Nick profusely.
As the teams part ways, Pete comes barrelling over to him and shakes him by the shoulders proudly. "You fucking beauty, Nicholas Nelson."
Nick beams and pulls him into a hug. "What can I say? I had an excellent left winger who had my back the whole time."
Pete smacks a kiss into his cheek before he breaks apart. "You're a good captain, kid. I don't know why the fuck you thought you wouldn't be." He looks over Nick's shoulder. "Oh, look. I think there's someone else who wants to congratulate you on your win there."
Nick hears him before he sees him, a sharp shout of his name before he turns around and spots Charlie pelting down the stairs and onto the pitch. He beams and takes a few steps towards him, ready to meet him halfway.
"You won!" Charlie screeches, barrelling towards him at speed. He slams into Nick and Nick scoops him up and spins him around like a cheesy romance movie moment, but fuck if this isn't the greatest feeling in all the world.
"We fucking won," he bellows, then sets Charlie back down and draws him in for a kiss that he feels could also be his romcom moment. Charlie's arms wrap around his neck and he surges up on his tiptoes so they can snog like heroes in the closing scene.
He's on top of the fucking world.
"You're incredible," Charlie breathes out, then kisses him again. "You are amazing. Amazing."
Nick feels himself go red and he grins down at the boy he loves so much. For a stupid couple of seconds, he thinks he could have lost the game spectacularly, but as long as Charlie told him that everything was okay, he'd probably believe him.
He's fucking elated that they won though, and even happier that Charlie is here, the proudest person on the pitch by a country mile. He kisses him again in a manner that's wholly inappropriate for the pitch, but he couldn't give a shit. He's just won and he's proud of himself and he's in love and everything feels good.
Once they separate, he lets Manrika pull him into an almost painfully tight hug, which he happily reciprocates. She's secretly his favourite of all his housemates, and he knows she's probably just as proud of him as Charlie is.
"That was fucking sick," she tells him. "You smashed it, babe."
"I think it went alright, yeah," Nick grins. He presses a kiss into her hair. "Thanks for coming."
"Like we wouldn't," she scoffs. "You've got a gorgeous little cheerleader too. He's very good at explaining the rules of rugby to me, an idiot."
"He's very knowledgeable," Nick agrees. "He used to play on the team with me."
"Babe, you've told us a hundred million times." She's being very sarcastic, but she sounds so unbearably fond as she says it that Nick laughs loudly. She kisses his cheek and moves out of the way so the rest of the flat can give him a squeeze and say well done, then suddenly they're being ushered off the pitch and out of there.
