Sorry for the small chapter
It turns out that their fourth flatmate is not like them in the ways they'd described, but he's a genuinely lovely guy who seems keen to get to know them all. He appears around mid-afternoon, a few hours after Polly turns up.
They spend the rest of the morning and over lunchtime helping Polly unpack her room, before they all head down to the campus shop to grab a meal deal.
Once back upstairs, they migrate to the small living room area and chat about themselves and their courses for a bit over their feasts, until they're interrupted by the sound of the front door opening.
They all freeze, eyes going wide as they go silent and stare at the kitchen door like the President of the United States is going to walk through it or something.
When it does open, it's not Joe Biden. It's a tall, chirpy looking bloke who introduces himself as Reg, and he politely shakes all their hands as they all introduce themselves back. Reg is from Shanghai, studying Accounting & Finance, and was randomly assigned this room after a late application to come to uni overseas.
He picked this building because he knows some people who live on lower floors, and he explains that in an enthusiastic tone that has them all grinning.
He doesn't stay long before he disappears into his room, then a few minutes after that they hear him leave. He seems sweet, and Charlie wouldn't be surprised if they didn't see much of him if he's got friends in other flats, but he seems like he's going to be a fun fourth edition to the flat.
They spend the rest of the afternoon chatting as a three, and even though Charlie apologetically bows himself out in the early evening, he heads over to Nick's with a spring in his step.
It feels like he's picked a good flat to live in for his first year. A very good flat indeed.
