The two teenagers, clad in dark clothes, cycled through the streets. Everyone was staring at them because they weren't exactly in the type of clothes they used to cycle.
To be truthful, it was embarrassing with everyone staring at them.
Jackson cleared his throat as he cycled, "So..Spy Janice huh? I knew you were called Janice but I didn't know it was just your given name as a spy."
Kang Wen, who were sitting behind him, and also cycling just as fast as him, chuckled, "A spy shouldn't have her real name known."
Jackson nodded thoughtfully before he said, "Your mother..."
Kang Wen tensed up at this but kept quiet to let Jackson finish his sentence.
"...Did something happen to her? How did you lose her? I mean, if you don't want to tell me, then it's okay but-"
Kang Wen let out a shallow laugh as she mumbled, "It's okay. I'll tell you. She got killed by ApeMan, one of the Dark Knights."
Jackson, as if on impulse, quickly looked down and apologized. Why do people feel the need to apologize when it wasn't their fault that someone died?
Kang Wen shrugged though she knew Jackson couldn't see it.
"My mum was a spy..just like me. She was in charge of a case involving the Dark Knights. She, like everyone else, was trying to wipe out the rebels so that your life wouldn't be in danger anymore."
"I feel like it's my fault that everyone is sacrificing themselves for me. I'm sorry, Kang Wen..."
The memories flashed before Kang Wen's mind as she sighed and whispered, "It isn't your fault."
It was five years ago...
She was only nine years old. It was a year after Karry, Roy and Jackson were sent to live somewhere else, to start a new life.
While she was left there alone, with the rebellion still clear in her mind as if it happened just yesterday.
She was missing Karry, Roy and Jackson and wondering if they were doing well.
Jackson... was he alright?
"Dear, mummy's going to work now okay?" Kang Wen's mother came into her room and sat down on the bed as it sank down a little due to her weight.
Kang Wen smiled and hugged her beautiful mother, "Come back safely okay?"
But that was the last time she saw her mother smiling. The last time she will spend with her mother.
Later that afternoon, a telephone call crushed her hopes forever.
She rushed to the hospital with her father, Kang Zhen.
She vividly remembered his face. It was stoney and blank. But she could see the pain and sadness in his eyes.
Kang Wen, on the other hand, was crying non-stop. Her heart hurt, she missed her mother.
When they reached the room, her mother couldn't even be recognized anymore.
Bandages wrapped her wounded body, and she lost the beautiful spark in her eyes. She looked weak and defeated, and couldn't even muster the strength to breathe. There was a machine attached into her nose that was helping her breathe.
"Mum...?" The nine year old Kang Wen whispered before scuffling over to the bed.
Her mother slowly turned her head and smiled down at her daughter, "K-Kang...Wen..."
