TW// Mentions of gun violence

Jauna was sent back to Quesadilla Island before she could even wave goodbye to Tallulah and Wilbur. Juana never felt unwelcome in L'manburg. Until now. Perhaps there were some bad eggs in L'manburg that thought she didn't belong there in any circumstance.

"We're almost there...are you sure you gave me the right address?" The escorting officer asked with his eyes on the road.

"Yes, I'm sure." Jauna replied from the back like a criminal. The car rolled passed the great dragon statue and Juana couldn't even look at it. She couldn't believe she was back on the island. Would anyone be excited to see her?

The car stopped. There is was, Jauna's house. The windows were boarded up and the front porch had started to cave in. The house had always been falling apart. They couldn't afford better, and neither man had the time to fix it up. "you wait here." The officer instructed as he hopped out of the car.

Jauna would of gotten out if she had the choice. Instead she tried to look out the tinted windows as the officer knocked on the door. No one came out and the house looked as ghostly as it ever had. But since there was no screaming in English-Spanish, there's no way her dads were there.

The officer got back in the car. "Don't seem like anyone's home."

"So, now what?"

"I'll take you to the police station here, and they'll deal with you." The officer decided and rolled the car out of the driveway. "So, you haven't had any contact with your parents in a year?"

"Pretty much..." Jauna didn't think a year was nearly long enough.

"And you're sure you don't have any other family?" The officer asked.

"Well..." Jauna had an idea. "I have an uncle and a cousin that live at 24 Camino Ingles."

"What's the translation on that?" The officer checked his GPS.

"English Road. It's what it sounds like, a street of mostly foreign English speakers."

The officer put the street into the GPS. "And you have family there?"

"Yes, I said MOSTLY English speakers. Anyone can live there, They aren't racists. Everyone coexists on this island."

"Mhm..." The officer felt attacked by her statement. "Sounds nice, kid. So what's your uncle's name?"

"Quackity, and my cousin Tilín." Jauna lied.

"That's a... unique name."

"Everyone calls him Big Q."

The officer nodded, he didn't care.

They made it to Camino Ingles. The officer parked and got out, knocking on the door. After awhile the door swung open slowly and the officer stepped in. He came out some time later and opened the back door for Jauna. "Your uncle will take you." That seemed easy enough.

Jauna sighed, good ole Big Q must of went along with her lie. "Thank you, officer..." Jauna tried to read his badge but he hopped back in the car. Jauna went to meet Quackity on the front step.

"¿Lo que está sucediendo? (What's happening?" Quackity kept watching as the officer started the car but didn't move.

"Es una larga historia...(it's a long story)." Jauna felt so weak and small now. What was she supposed to do? Ask about her parents? Her friends?

"¡Has estado desaparecido durante un año! (You have been missing for a year!)" Quackity opened his door and swept her inside. "¿dónde has estado? (Where have you been?)"

"He estado en otros lugares... L'manburg. (I have been in other places.)"

"L'manburg?! ¿Por qué? (Why?)" Quackity went to his kitchen and sifted through garbage until he found a half empty bottle of wine. "Es tu culpa...(it's your fault...)" He put the bottle to his lips and drank passionately. "¡¿Por qué te escapaste?!(Why did you run away?!)"

"¡Mis padres están locos! (my parents are crazy!)"

"Estaban locos...(They were crazy)"

"¿Dónde están mis padres? (where are my parents?)" Jauna couldn't tell if she was excited, sad, or suicidal.

"Muerto..."

"¿Muerto?"

"Sí..."

Jauna started crying, surprising herself. She never thought she'd cry over her parents. They were crazy, abusive, killers.

"Murieron en un tiroteo masivo... (They died in a mass shooting.)" Quackity looked at Jauna like her crying was only irritating. He blamed her. "Ellos lo empezaron... alguien lo terminó. (They started it, someone finished it.)" Quackity sucked down more of the wine. Then he gestured to the state of his house. "Mi casa está vacía por culpa de ellos, por tu culpa. (My house is empty because of them, because of you.)

"¡¿A mí?! (Me?!)" Jauna sniffled.

"Se volvieron locos, buscándote. (They went crazy, looking for you.)" Quackity shook his head. "Mi Tilín estaba en el edificio...(My Tilín was in the building.)" His voice quivered.

"¡¿Tilín se ha ido?! (Tilín is gone?!" Jauna's pain couldn't get any worse, surely.

"Tanta gente...(So many people)" Quackity put down the bottle and finally said something in English. It chilled Jauna's bones. Maybe he had forgotten she spoke English.
"I should kill you too, make it fair..."
