"What's wrong?"
"What do you mean?"
"You are acting weird"
"What . . . do you mean?"
"Whatever it is, just tell me. You know you can trust me"
" . . ."
"You can trust me. Just . . . just tell me what it is"
" . . . "
"Please"
"I did something bad"
Rocky, who's sitting on my lap, hesitates for a couple of seconds, then he asks "What do you mean by . . . bad?"
I take a peek at the truck's mirror, glancing at Skye sleeping on the ladder basket at the end of the vehicle, then look back at the road
"I tried to talk to him"
He sighs, closing his eyes for a moment, before placing one paw on my cheek "What did you do?"
I take another peek at the car's mirror, checking one last time on Skye before whispering to Rocky "We had a fight . . . He . . ."
"He what, Marshall"
"I-I shouldn't have gone. . . He had a gun and-" I start getting agitated, my paws feeling cold as I clench my teeth, trying to not lose my focus on the road
Rocky just leans on me, not taking his paw off my cheek and mumbles "So, that's what's been disturbing you . . ."
Then I notice the Adventure Bay sign pass
As we are entering the town, I take one last glance at the side mirror and notice Skye looking forward, staring right at the Lookout tower
I didn't notice her waking up
Was she awake all this time?
I park the truck on one side of the street, right in front of Rocky's house and hop down
Rocky and Skye hop down the truck as well but, Skye turns around and starts heading towards the main avenue
"Skye? Where are you going?" He exclaims with a frown as I turn to look at her as well
She turns her head to glance at us "I- I wanted to check something . . . back at the . . . I'll be back" she finishes, walking away
Rocky turns to look at me worried, but I just open the front door and get inside the house
And everything looks . . . normal?
Sofas back to their spot, kitchen drawers and drawers from the furniture around the house closed, guests room door closed, the only messy thing is the bed in my room
I take a quick glance at all 4 walls around the bedroom, before immediately heading towards the bookshelf
Without hesitation, I grab a particular book and start looking for the map that I hid some time ago
I feel intense relief when I see the perfectly folded piece of paper fall to the floor
But then I drop the book and move the bookshelf, opening the unlabelled box without hesitation
"Marsh-?"
I ssshush him as I open the dull yellow folder, carefully checking every single page
And . . . Chase's page . . . the tip of the corner is slightly wrinkled . . . This wasn't like this before
Wasn't it?
