Taehyun told him to not look up no matter what happens. The idea was to truly be anonymous meaning if you got caught, the people who hired you would have no idea what you looked like and vice versa. It was a safety precaution for all parties involved.

Kai didn't care about the specifics. The money was the only thing he was after. Taehyun handed him the letter as he inputted his code into the gate. It opened and they went inside.

He followed Taehyun's feet into a large, well lit hall with a red carpet down the center. Three chairs were lined against the wall. The feet of them looked like thrones.

The person on the right spoke in a low voice, "I see you have fresh blood. Other one didn't even last a month huh?"

Taehyun didn't say anything. Only nodded.

The one in the middle chair had a higher pitch to his voice. "Give it here. We have stuff to do."

Kai walked up and extended his hand, still looking down towards the ground.

He was handed a large stack of cash as a reward.

Taehyun bowed then told Kai they could leave now.

The one on the left, said "wait." He had an even lower voice than the one on the right. Kai saw him step off of his throne to stand in front of him. "Show me your face."

Taehyun came to stand next to his new employee. "That will put him in danger. I'd like to have this one longer than a month."

The man spat back "I gave an order. Show me your face."

Out of fear for his own life, Kai lifted his head. He saw the person he was now taking orders from. Long wolf cut brown hair. Dark, piercing almond eyes. Thin heart shaped red lips and a glass cutting jaw line. The guy was shorter than him by a few inches and was just as thin as Taehyun. The three men all seemed extremely handsome. Even more so in their red silk shirts and black leather pants.

Kai didn't give a shit about how attractive the guy in front of him was. Just another pretty face. Who cares? He just wanted the money and to be left alone. He didn't say anything as they locked eyes.

The guy kept staring at him. With the tips of his fingers, he gently pulled the mask off of Kai's face. Now Kai was even more uncomfortable. The stranger just kept analyzing him. He asked "what's your name?"

Kai didnt respond.

His voice somehow dropped even lower as he demanded an answer. "I asked you a question. If you want the money, you will answer me."

Kai didnt want it that much. The gems in his pocket was almost worth the amount of cash he had in his hand. He gave it back and said "keep it." As he turned to walk away, he felt his wrist being grabbed. He got yanked towards the stranger and was merely inches from his face. The stranger looked like he was about to murder him right then and there but Kai didnt back down. "Let me go. I dont fucking work for you."

The one in the middle looked impressed while the one on the right looked nervous.

The guy kept his grip but softened the tone in his voice. "My name is Beomgyu Choi. I told you my name. What's yours?"

"Kai. Never got a legal last name."

Beomgyu let Kai go and put the cash back into his hand. "Take it. You'll have your next assignment in a couple of days. Taehyun will let you know when. Try not to get killed."

Kai refused to bow as he walked away. Like hell he was going back there. It didn't matter how much they paid for their delivery service. Why would he go back to a bunch of psychos who thought they owned him? If Taehyun came finding him again, he was going to run. And this time he wasnt going to stop.

He got into the cab that was waiting out front. Taehyun followed shortly behind. They didn't say much until they got out by the Red Light District.

Taehyun turned to him and stated "I can't believe he did that..."

Kai walked away while saying "it was nice working with you. Thanks for the cash. You won't be seeing me again."

Taehyun chased after him. "Do you even understand what happened? Beomgyu has a personal interest in you now! If you think you can just walk away youre delusional."

Kai ignored him and kept walking. Ignorance is bliss. He was about to start running if the other didn't shut up soon.

"Those people back there run this whole god damn city. Soobin, Yeonjun and Beomgyu are all apart of the Choi dynasty."

Kai gave a thumbs up followed by a middle finger as he kept walking. He tried to focus on the sound of gravel crunching beneath his shoes but the other was making that a bit difficult.

Taehyun continued to rant. "I've never seen them do that Kai! Not once! I have no idea what compelled Beomgyu to have a special interest in you but I can promise you're better off running letters for me than being on your own!"

Kai began jogging. He heard a version of that from social services and about 8 different foster families.

Nothing about Taehyun jogging after him was shocking. If he had to start sprinting, he would. His stamina could outlast anyone any day.

Taehyun yelled between steps "KAI! IM OFFERING YOU SHELTER AND MONEY! WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM?!"

Kai stopped jogging. He turned around and waited for the shorter to catch up to him. "Youre offering me a job to keep me chained to you. I refuse to belong to anyone but myself. Im fine on my own."

"Try it out for a week okay? You can make decent money in that time. The only thing youre bound to is the letters and the length of time you have to deliver them. If youre unhappy after a week, then you can leave. Deal?"

Kai looked off to the distance. He wasnt far from the place he usually slept in. It was a peaceful corner in a trashed studio. The space was shared with two other homeless guys who kept to themselves in exchange for hot water, heating and air conditioning. Kai was more than happy to pay for those bills if it meant privacy to himself. He could've had his own apartment but the homeless guys were good company. The darker part of him saw them as people to take the fall for his crimes if the police ever found his stash of stolen goods.

Taehyun eagerly waited for his prospect's response. Kai was more than what he bargained for. His ability to escape alone, made him million times better than the other three backups on his list. Might be a bit too stubborn for his own good but that was a small price for a big reward.

The average messenger lasted 6 months before they were either caught or killed. The last one was killed because he begun to brag about all the money he had made to the wrong people. They stole his cash and cut off the gang tattoo on his arm so he couldn't be traced as an ex-engene.

None of the messengers have accused, when caught, Taehyun because they feared his connection to the Chois. Taehyun was also the only person to take a chance on them so there was a strong loyalty aspect as well.

"Well? What do you say?"

Kai continued to look back towards his apartment. He spoke without turning his head. "Where am I sleeping tonight?"
