"So you just need to hold the reins loosely and pull it left and right to direct Moonlight the direction you want to go. She is a smart but an obedient horse and will do what you tell her." Lief instructed.
I followed his horse along to path that I knew lead towards the lake shore and tried not to look down from ontop of the horse."Gugh", I shivered as I shifted my eyes up.
"What is wrong? Lief questioned.
"It's so high up here on my high horse. I'm not used to being this high up." I replied with worry in my eyes.
"I'll let nothing happen to you." Lief responded catching my eyes with his.
I sliently looked away trying to push away the funny feeling that arose in me from his response.
We continued in silence until we reached the lake and stopped and started to see the sun sink into the vast lake's waters.
"So what was it you wanted to talk about? I asked breaking the silence.
The sun was almost at the water's edge when he replied. "Your father had agreed for you to marry me in exchange for your Kingdom's safety. So will you be my wife?" Lief asked.
He stood with a stone cold look on his face after he finished speaking, but his face changed when I angrily replied, "What? Safety from what? Safety from you? Are you going to, what, destroy us if I say no? Do I even have choice?"
I yanked on the horses reins and whipped the beast around, almost falling off the horse and pushed it to go as fast as it could away from the sunset. Moonlight was a faster horse than Lief's black beauty and I reach the stable before him.
He stopped me as I got too far ahead of him and grabbed my arm.
We both had anger in our eyes and flames coming off our skin as we looked into each others fiery orbs. I was about to break down and cry that my life as a free woman was about to come to an end, with out without my head.
"I won't hurt you. Lief said softly. "I want you to like me."
"But what about my Kingdom? My people? What if I was to say no? I begged.
"I need a wife to expanded my domain in the West. We could join our kingdoms together to become one and you could still visit here to take care of the welfare of the people." Lief revealed.
Well now that I knew the motive behind the King of the North's visit and the reality that there was no other option for me, I felt hollow. I then wished I could go back to my life in the future were I could simply worry about myself and had a sea full of options. The look on my face must have told King Lief that I was going to be unresponsive because he turned and walked away leaving me with, "I'll wait for your response until tomorrow."
I stumbled my way into the castle and wished tomorrow would never come.
