The great hall was decorated beautifully. There were cream coloured flowers everywhere that were arranged into huge vases. The tables were covered with bright white linens and all I could think was about what a mess the place was going to be at the end of the night. All the Northern men were invited to join in the "celebrations" and I was expecting that it was going to be a wild evening.
Dinner was served as soon as everyone was seated in the room. I didn't have much of an appetite from all the stress I was under, but my stomach was rumbling and the food was starting to look pretty good. I loaded my plate with a couple pieces of meat, an assortment of cheese, a couple slices of fruit, a piece of soft bread. I then poured myself a glass of wine to the brim of the cup and went to sit down at the head table. I was just about to sit in my usually chair when Lief slid onto the the seat right under my nose.
"It is tradition in my Kingdom for the bride to sit on the lap of the King the evening of her marriage." Lief flirted.
My eyes rolled back in my head, "Well I'm not partaking in that."
I sat in the seat next to him trying to hold back the annoyance I felt. It had been less than 30 minutes and he was already trying to drive me crazy!
The evening was going pretty well and with the beer flowing into the guests, the noise in the room was growing louder and louder. I was getting a crazy headache from all the wine I was drinking. Lief had left me alone the rest of the evening and was in the corner drinking with his men. I decided that now would be a good time to sneek off and head to bed.
I headed swiftly to my bed chamber and walked towards the bed. I ripped the cloth bandage off my cut hand and squeezed it over my flipped open bed sheets. I knew in this time of history that a woman was expected to bleed during her first time with her husband and that it was a sign of her purity.
Well none of that nonsense was going to be happening tonight, so I had to pretend that it did if I was going to keep my position as Queen with the people.
Even though I'm sure my people wouldn't hold it against me for not sleeping with Lief....I quickly took off my gown and placed it gently on a chair and put a robe over my chemise. I then crept out the door and headed towards Mathilde's room two floors below mine.
There were people lingering in the hall once I got to her floor, but I managed to sneek into Mathilde's room unnoticed by the horny couple.
Her room was small, but very tidy and clean. I had arranged with Mathilde that I would sleep in her room tonight to hide away from Lief and get a good night's sleep. I didn't trust Lief to hold his promises so I would be avoiding him as much as possible. A part of me though also had fun teasing him by flirting back with him and wanted to see how far I could wrap him around my finger.
I crawled into bed next to the lit fire and I was finally able to fall fast to sleep, even though this was only the start of my next big adventure.
