I had chosen a black dress to wear on my wedding day. It was going to be more of a funeral than a joyous celebration so I decided to grieve my freedom, I would wear black. It was a beautiful dress and I looked better in dark colours than in white so even by not trying hard to look good, I still looked and felt beautiful.
Lief and his men would be taking me in a couple days back to their Kingdom in the North. I had a bag packed with some of my favourite dresses and things that I had gotten used to.
I stared at the closed wooden doors that held behind them what I had feared the first time I had stood in front of them. I was being married to a man that I didn't love. I mean I couldn't deny that I found him attractive. He was the definition of a man in my mind. His muscles were huge, but no too huge. His hair and beard were long, but not untamed. He was tall and stood proudly and could manoeuver his body with speed as well as grace. He was a little bit too cocky for my taste and was called a heartless murderer by thousands of people across the North and mainland, but he was going to become my husband once I walked through those doors.
I didn't love him... I couldn't love him...I released the breath I was holding and entered through the large doors and started my march to the front with my head held high. I just wanted this day to be over...
At the front stood the priest and Lief. I had caught Lief's eyes with my own, but lower my glaze and kept my eyes straight ahead of me focusing on Lief's chest. The priest was rambling on in a unknown language and the audience was quietly listening. My emotions had overcome me and made me just feel hollow. I was like a guest in my own body, silently observing the ceremony from up close. The priest suddenly stopped and looked at Lief, handing him a decorated knife with a shiny golden blade. I looked at the blade and took a step back. I searched the crowd's faces for the fear that I felt. They all had calm looks on their faces and didn't find the sharp knife a threat like I did. My hand was yanked upwards towards Lief. One of his hands held the knife and the other held me. I angrily glared at him while trying to break free. Lief just chuckled and slowly brought the knife down towards my palm and pressed to point to prick the skin.
"Ouch!" I exclaimed angrily.
He just quickly let my hand go and pricked his own palm with the knife. The knife was handed back to the priest and Lief grabbed my hand and put my bloody palm in his own. I cringed as the warm sticky liquid dripped down my wrist as I tried to pull away. The thought that I could possibly contract AIDS entered my mind but it didn't have time to brew in my head because Lief started to speak...
"Blood to blood, I bind with thee. Soul to soul, I join thee. Heart to heart, I promise thee that I shall shelter thee and protect thee until thy final breathe. Hand in hand I taketh thee to become my wedded wife. I give thee my body and mind till the Moon is full no more. I give thee my love for eternity and my spirit till its called home. Together we will become one. Together we will grow. Together for ever, my love, my whole."
I was spell bound by his words. They were lovely, but how could he say such lovely things as lies to my face? I wanted to laugh and get upset but held my tongue. If he was going to make this marriage a game then I was going to win it.
The crowd was looking at me. I guess it was my turn....
"Yeah...With all my heart I love you too... for evermore till death do us part." I leaked though clenched teeth all while slowly looking up to meet Lief's eyes with my own.
"You may kiss your bride" the priest announced.
I cringed just internally this time and held my breath. My body was rigid as Lief started to lean in. Well hear goes nothing... I quickly leaned in quicker reaching up to catch Lief's neck and pressed my cold closed lips against Lief's. He was taken aback with surprise that I made the first move, but pulled me in closer. Our lips tingled as they touched and I had to mentally stop myself from parting my lips open to match his. I used my hand on his neck to press against his chest, pushing him off. He resisted for a sec, but pulled himself away. I quickly caught my breath again and looked out towards the crowd before I was dragged away to the bloody reception.
