I woke at the crack of dawn not having slept from the anxiety I felt deep inside. The first thing I did was find John and Sir Brutus and drag them into my office.
"Were you going to tell me about the little agreement the previous King had with the King of the North?" I yelled.
They both looked shocked from my outburst and then had regret on their faces.
"Do I have any other option than to marry the asshole?" I exclaimed with tears forming in my eyes.
Wise old John replied, "It was agreed on by your father to protect you and the rest of the kingdom from the outcomes of a war that could not be won. It will be better financially and better for the safety of the people to join forces with such a strong kingdom than to be against one."
He gave me a look of heartfelt remorse."But I'll have to sacrifice everything ..." I whispered.
I guess trying to change the outcome of the lives of women and the repressed in such primative times would not be as easy as I thought. I was going to have to agree to go against all that I stood for in order to survive in this living nightmare that I was in. Would OG Tegan agree to the arrangement if she was, well herself?
I don't know how much of a push over she was but if I was going to agree to this then I would have to set some of my own terms to the arrangement.#1: I was not going to be sleeping with him. Sure I was not a virgin but I bet OG Tegan was and I wouldn't ruin her reputation even if we were going to be techincally married to the guy. I also didn't want him to also be sleeping around with other women and breaking our scared wedding vows even if there were only said for him to get what he wants...
#2: The people of my Kingdom were not going to be slaves or second class to the people of his Kingdom. They would be treated with respect and be payed a respectable wage as everyone who works hard should.
#3: He would let me have my freedom and let me do and say what I wanted. I was not going to become some hand puppet or side piece. I would be treated with respect and be able to keep my dignity.
I arranged to have lunch with King Lief to tell him my response and my list of terms. He was seated in the dining room before I got there and looked very relaxed as he sprawled his legs out under the table. When he saw me, he straightened up and held a cheeky grin on his face. I looked him in his icy blue eyes and marched my way to the seat across from him.
"I agree to marry you on some terms." I blurted out before I was fully seated.
"Nice to see you too." Lief said. "Well what are your terms then?"
I started telling him term number one, but he looked sad and mad at the same time once I was done. "We have to consumate the marriage." Lief argued.
"I want my first time to be with the man I love." I lied.
Sadness came to his face but then he agreed and said, "OK. If that is what you desire, then I agree."
I was confused and shaken by his emotions and had thought that I would have been in for a fight with that request, but I believed he was telling the truth. That he would respect my wishes.
After I finished telling him my demands, he agreed and guaranteed that I would be able to have my freedom, but I was starting to doubt whether he was actually telling the truth.
"How can I trust you to keep to your agreement?" I asked while looking up into his soul striking eyes.
"We will get married on the next full moon on Wednesday and then I will spend every day afterwards making you love me." Lief promised.
I was shocked by his comment and a huge fire burned across my face. I looked away from him to hide my blushing skin and replied,"We'll see about that."
