Gut Feeling

At the moment you were doing what you were paid to do. Being a server in a stupid restaurant. The longer you worked the more you hated it. There were so many annoying people. It got on your nerves.

It was a normal day. Serving plates to hungry mouths that couldn't shut up. Yes, you hated it but it got you money. And money got you things to make your small apartment a bit more homely.

It's been a couple of days since you spied on Wilbur for Quackity. And you haven't been told anything since. You didn't even know if Quackity has acted on your information. You just hoped that the information you got was important. If it wasn't, then you risked your life for nothing.

It was now getting closer to closing time. It was a boring day, it had been for a couple of days. You watched as a couple of your coworkers started to shuffle out. Leaving you to close up the restaurant, like always. It got on your nerves but they shrugged it off as 'you're the newbie, you can do it for a while.'

As you were locking the doors behind you when you left, you heard something down the street. But you shrugged it off because it was a Saturday night, there were people out here at 9 pm. So you kept moving, moving back to your apartment.

As you kept walking home, you thought someone was following you, like a couple of nights ago. Was someone spying on you? You kept turning around to try to see but when you turned you saw nothing. So you kept moving.

Your gut was telling you to run even though there was nothing to run from. The longer your walk the more often you turned around. One time you looked around you saw a dark purple cloak, just like last time. The moment you saw the purple blur you started to run. You recognized the cloak and that's when you knew you were being followed.

So you ran and ran. You have never been so scared. You had heard horror stories and how bad things happened whenever someone was chased down a dark street. You just hoped being forced to move to this damned city wouldn't be the death of you.

As you were running you swear you heard footsteps keeping up with you. You just had to get back to your apartment building. You were so close, you just had to turn this corner and open the door to the building. Then you were safe.

You ran as fast as you could. Just one turn.

You turned the corner and smashed into a person. And you fell flat on your ass. You looked up and saw Quackity. With his damn scarred face.

"Woah there, darling. What were you runnin' for?" Quackity asked and offered his hand to you as help.

This would be the only time you would be happy to see him. "Oh my god. I'm sorry," You said breathily as you stood back up, taking Quackity's hand help to steady yourself. You turned your head around the corner you just came from and saw no purple cloak. "Wha-" You said breathlessly.

"What's wrong?" he asked, turning the corner as well.

"I-" You started as you put your hands on your knees, trying to catch your breath. You did just run two or three blocks. "I was getting chased... by someone in a purple cloak."

"Pft- Are you sure? There's no one here!" He said pointing down the street.

"Why would I be lying about that?!" You asked, much louder than you intended.

"Okay, calm down. Just breathe." He put a hand on your shoulder to try and help you.

You were too tired to push his hand away. But the longer he kept his hand there, the more you grew to accept it. It had been a very long time since you've had contact with someone else. It was sad to say but it was true.

When you caught your breath you decided to make some conversation.

"Why the hell are you here anyways?" You asked, facing Quackity now.

"Well, I wanted to ask you at the restaurant but I realized it was too late so I thought I would meet you here. I just wanted to ask if you would come with me for a mission to recruit someone." He replied.

When you thought about what he was asking you, you were very confused.

"Why would you want me? Go get the golden guy." You said as you started to walk into the apartment complex and get to the elevator.

"No, I asked you first for a reason. C'mon, hun!"

"Give me one good reason why I should join you, Q."

"Why do you think I made you join my party? You have attributes I need for this group and I need you for this mission."

He just needed you for power. That was what he needed at the start and what he needed now. You didn't matter to him. You never did.

You were silent as Quackity kept talking about what he needed and why. He kept talking as you made your way up to your room. Only when you unlocked your door did you finally turn to him.

"I will go with you. Only if you take the damn chip out of my dog." You said those words Pixie came up to your knee and stared at Quackity.

You watched as Quackity looked at you, then at Pixie, then back at you. Weighing his options. It seemed like a million thoughts were racing through his mind.

"Fine. It will be done after the mission. I will tell them you won't be at the restaurant tomorrow. I'll be here at seven in the morning to pick you up. I'll see you tomorrow." He winked at you as he turned back to the elevator. Almost like he was begging on his knees as he asked you out on a date and you only said yes because you pitied him.

You shut your door roughly after he left. Pixie winced after the loud slam. You comforted her as you apologized, giving her love and pets.

After a quick snack, you got ready for bed with Pixie. You fell asleep hoping that tomorrow wouldn't be too hard of a mission. But you knew it would be hell either way.
