Seven months later....
Katherine sighed as she went home with Ethan driving her home. It was graduation day and Katherine was happy to be done with high school. Graduation day was long, and she was exhausted, and she sat on the couch. But Katherine thought about her father and Ashley, and she started to tear up.
"You're done with high school; how do you feel?" Ethan asked as he walked toward the couch.
"Great." Katherine lied with a lump in her throat.
"Hey," Ethan mumbled and sat next to her. "What's wrong? Today is your day, you should be happy."
"My dad and Ashley should be here," Katherine softly cried. "Ashley should be here graduating with me, not me graduating without her." Katherine finished.
"They're still with you in your heart." Ethan assured her.
"I know," Katherine said as she wiped her tears away. "It just sucks."
"I understand that." Ethan said and gave her a side hug.
"Thanks." Katherine thanked and gave Ethan a weak smile as she looked up at him.
"So, what are you doing about college?"
"I'm going to wait a year."
"To party?" Ethan asked, ginning at her.
"No," Katherine giggled and shook her head. "After the year I had," Katherine sighed. "I just want some me time." Katherine answered.
"I get that."
"I don't want to spend it to practice killing evil vampires with crossbows and guns with wooden bullets." Katherine giggled.
"Those practices are helpful."
"I know but I'm done with vampires."
"Hey!" Ethan responded, jokingly and laughed.
"You're fine." Katherine laughed.
"Have you talked to Veronica much?" Ethan asked and furrowed his eyebrows.
"Not since Noah first left," Katherine sighed. "I feel awkward trying to reach out, but I also feel bad not reaching out."
"Don't sweat it," Ethan responded, wanting to change the subject. He knew talking about Noah was hard for her and he regretted bringing Veronica up. "Do you know what we could do?"
"What could we do?" Katherine asked, laughing.
"Road trip," Ethan answered. "We should drive to fun places and explore the world."
"We don't have the money for that."
"No," Ethan chuckled and shook his head. "Correction, you may not have the money for it but I do."
"How?" Katherine laughed. "Where did it come from?"
"A vampire life is useless if you don't find a way to get rich." Ethan answered.
"I guess you're right."
"So, what do you say? Are you in?" Ethan asked.
"I'm in." Katherine answered and nodded.
"Hungry?" Stella asked as she parked the car in a mall.
"Not really." Noah groaned.
"C'mon, Noah," Stella sighed. "Give this new thing a chance?"
"Kidnapping?"
"Can you stop saying that?"
"No."
"Noah, what do you want to eat?" Stella asked.
"Let's go get a burger somewhere." Noah mumbled.
"That's much better." Stella beamed.
