Chapter 20

"Thanks for letting me take the window seat." Katherine said.

"You're welcome." Ethan said as he gave her a warm smile.

"We are still not friends."

"Kat, I know I keep saying it," Ethan sighed in defeat. "I am so sorry." Ethan murmured as the plane began to take of. Ethan was full of guilt. He knew that she should not have lied to her but he really believed that it was the best thing for her. 

"You keep saying that." Katherine sighed and she glared at him.

"If I could take it back, you know I would." Ethan responded as he frowned at her.

"Would you?" Katherine asked and raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, I would." Ethan answered and gave her a quick nod.

"You promised that there were no more lies," Katherine shot at him. "But you kept this from me."

"I was looking for Noah." Ethan replied in a soft whisper.

"I get that but what were you going to say when you did?" Katherine asked. "How would you have explained that to me?"

"I really don't know." Ethan sighed and looked straight ahead.

"Your plan was very flawed." Katherine retorted and crossed her arms, looking away from hin and straight ahead.

"Yeah," Ethan mumbled softly. "Very flawed." Ethan repeated her words, lowering his voice.

"You are dead to me the second we find Noah." Katherine shot at him coldly.

"I know." Ethan sighed in defeat and looked down.

"I'm not in love with you." Noah lied.

"But I thought you loved me." Katherine softly cried.

"I lied," Noah lied again. "I was just having fun."

"Just having fun?" Katherine gawked.

"Our worlds are too different," Noah sighed and looked down at the ground. "I don't have feelings for you."

"Tell me this is a joke!" Katherine cried out and buried her face in her hands as she sobbed.

"I'm sorry I didn't break it off sooner."

"This can't be happening." Katherine softly cried and she dropped her hands and wiped tears from her cheeks.

"I want you to move on and live your life," Noah said. "Pretend I never existed."

"You can't ask me to do that!" Katherine shouted at him.

"Promise me that you'll go to college, get married, start a family and grow old... can you do that?" Noah asked.

"No!" Katherine screamed.

"You have to."

"Why are you doing this?"

"Goodbye, Katherine." Noah said and walked away towards his car.

"If you leave, I'll hate you forever." Katherine sobbed as she followed him.

Katherine's eyes widened as she gasped and she looked around, seeing Ethan stare at her with his eyes widened with concern and confusion. I hate you for doing this to me. Katherine's words echoed in her mind.

"Are you alright?" Ethan asked and rubbed her right arm softly.

"Y-y-yeah, I am fine." Katherine sighed softly.  "It was just a dream."

"Was it a nightmare?" Ethan asked and furrowed his eyebrows and he pulled his hand away from her arm.

"You could say that, I guess." Katherine answered in a soft whisper.

"We will be there soon, Kat."

"Do you think Noah is still alive?"

"I believe so," Ethan answered and nodded slowly. "Stella has no reason to kill him."

"Right," Katherine groaned and rolled her eyes, feeling stupid for asking that question. "She is crazy in love with him."
