"Drink it all. I did suffer just to make it. I even tried sterilizing your bottle a little with the hot water, but I don't know if that's safe enough." Cui Huifen said to the baby despite knowing he didn't understand as she fed him his lukewarm milk that had taken her way longer than it should've to make.
She was currently sitting on a table by the convenience store window, watching the little human gulp down the contents of the little bottle urgently.
She felt a little relieved that he was no longer crying.
It took some time before the bottle was eventually emptied and Cui Huifen dropped it into the bag she carried.
When her eyes returned to the baby, she saw him staring right back at her, almost expectantly. She blinked.
Oh, you have to burp babies, right?
She lifted the newborn and rested him on her shoulder and after a little trial and error, burped him. Afterwards, she lay him in her arms again and was surprised to see he had gone back to sleep.
This is a good child, Cui Huifen thought with satisfaction.
At least he only cried when he was in need of something and went right to sleep when his needs were met. This would definitely make her life a lot easier.
Finally free to appease her hunger, Cui Huifen opened the oatmeal bar and munched on it.
Each bite was taken slowly, not to savor the taste, but to trick her mind that she was eating a lot. It was an old trick she had learned to do in university when money was tight in her past life, and now she was at it again.
It was karmic.
There was once a time she had spent 3 million yuan on a single diamond ring without batting an eye and now...
She felt utterly bitter.
How does one go from being a leading businesswoman who ran a conglomerate and lived in a top penthouse in Shanghai to trying to survive on a fricking oatmeal bar?
She went from being an accomplished and admired CEO to a homeless, jobless and degree-less mother in one day!
It was enough to make a grown woman cry.
This was another hit of reality that her past success was merely water under the bridge and while useless to dwell upon now, didn't make it hurt less to think about.
But alas, she reminded herself that there were more pressing matters at hand, such as where they would spend the night because the day was already coming to an end, so Cui Huifen had to push her complaints to the back of her mind.
Retrieving the bag was important because it held the key to a range of opportunities such as her educational prospects and personal items of the villainess. However, it was not more important than finding a safe place to rest tonight, especially with her little friend.
Cui Huifen reached into her pocket and pulled out the remaining money. It was a lousy amount that couldn't even get them a motel or hostel room, but at least it was something.
She sat quietly, thinking of what to do when the she suddenly heard a little wheeze and jumped before bursting out laughing, looking at the sleeping baby who had just farted.
She shook her head, wondering why such a thing would make her laugh. Maybe she had lost her mind. Yes, that must be it. The events of today were finally taking a tole on her mental state.
Her sights travelled back out the window when she caught something that peaked her interest.
"Hey pervert," she called the cashier and pointed to the building across the street. "Are they really hiring?"
