KAZUMI OKAMOTO. Kazumi Okamoto was not new to seeing the hideous figures lurking in the shadows. Kazumi Okamoto was not new to seeing figures sucking the energy out of people and watching the brightness in people's eyes be replaced with undereye bags in the same hues as raisins and wine. Kazumi Okamoto was not new to walking past ordinary people not making eye contact with what caused them pain and took away their loved ones.
Okamoto means one who lives at the base of the hill. At first, the people that bore their first name were applauded for being able to be hidden in the Ryukyu islands. These were the people that were said to be blessed by the goddess Ame-no-Izume-no-Mikoto. They showed their devotion by performing Kagura and in turn were blessed with various abilities that in turn helped them show their devotion even more.
Later it described their position in the jujutsu world as it fell to the bottom after the Early Edo period. The death of the Six Eyes and Ten Shadows Technique users brought conflict to the big four clans at the time; Zenin, Gojo, Kamo, and Okamoto their conflict affected the ability of jujutsu sorcerers to do their job properly as tensions were at an all-time high. The Okamoto clan chose to separate themselves from the rest of the clans and jujutsu sorcerer society.
The Okamoto clan fell from grace and due to their isolation they were no longer welcome into jujutsu society. The higher-ups made sure to keep as many eyes open for anyone apart of the Okamoto clan and demanded their execution upon discovery in any part away from their home area in the Ryukyu Islands.
The Okamoto clan were always good at hiding and continued to pass down their teachings and taught their young clan members gifted with seeing curses to exorcise them and to protect the people of Japan. The young were taught about stealth, about awareness, about the dangers of getting caught. The Okamoto education system taught their youth the history and conflict of jujutsu sorcerer society, they said the real curses of jujutsu society were the bastards that made up the higher-ups, and the selfishness of the big three clans.
The clan assigned and sent groups on missions to eradicate curses in mainland Japan. People came back unscathed, people came back injured, people came back limp in the arms of their comrades, and some people never came back.
Kazumi Okamoto knew her position in the world, she knew what she had to do. Such things included playing her part in the clan, playing her part as a shaman, and by no means getting caught.
Each mission bestowed on her was completed quickly, with haste, before any sorcerers aligned with jujutsu society could get to the scene. Sometimes she would get to her location late and see people her age fighting against the curse she was supposed to exorcise. She watched them, she even took over if they were getting too fatigued.
Kazumi Okamoto was lenient to those her age, after all, she was barely going to become an adult she did not want the burden of their death on her conscious. She decided they had no other choice but to follow nonsense rules in a world where the gift of seeing curses was a contract with death itself. She held no grudge against them.
They would shout questions at her but she never stuck around longer than needed.
Either way, none of them would be able to remember her or be able to tell anyone what she looked like.
