AMATERASU IS A WELL-KNOWN DEITY IN JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY.

The performance of Kagura makes the performer, usually female, become possessed by a god and herself become the god. This tells the stories of the gods.

Ame-no-Uzume is the goddess of dawn and when Amaterasu the goddess of the sun sealed herself in the cave she was the one to entice her out of the cave. The various kami had to devise something to save the world from eternal darkness.

Ame-no-Uzume performed a comical dance on an upturned bathtub. She also partially disrobed herself and the gods around her laughed at her performance.

This made Amaterasu peek out from her cave to see what it was that had the gods joyful when the world was in depressing eternal darkness.

Just like that it was said that Kagura was born.

The Okamoto clan was a clan not well known for much. They wanted to be blessed by the gods as much as any other clan.

The first sorcerer born in the Okamoto clan was their first blessing.

The first Okamoto female clan member blessed to be possessed by Uzume was a part of the head family. Her mask is passed down to each daughter born to the clan head for when it is their time to perform the Kagura and hopefully get enchanted by the goddess of dawn.

It was a never-failing tradition. That brought joy to the head family and the clan members. Being blessed by Uzume meant good health and joy to prosper in their clan.

It was said that Ame-no-Uzume was also a patroness to strong sorcerers so their clan only grew in strength as time went on.

The clan members wore masks when going out to ward off evil spirits and deter them from being followed back home. As well as an homage to the kagura performance that is done wearing a mask.

Until the Okamoto clan's first curse.

Until Ryomen Sukuna decided to step in. He ruined all the Okomoto clan.

The terror Ryomen Sukuna bestowed upon the Okamoto clan is what drove them to disappear. The clans' feuding just pushed them to further isolate themselves for good. To keep themselves and their future generations safe from the web of corruptness of Jujutsu society.

The King of Curses reigned in the Heian Period and killed many during his reign of terror as sorcerers were foolish enough to think a small group of them could handle him at the height of his strength.

The Okamoto clan head's daughter at the time, Mikoto was a young adult who had successfully performed the kagura at the age of eighteen. Her curse technique had a lot to do with water as she developed her technique to shift the water in her opponent's blood to make them move to her will.

When the strongest sorcerers were being gathered to put an end to Sukuna she was called up for this powerful technique.

When up against Sukuna her technique had failed. Sukuna found it curious when his body froze for a few seconds, hands twitching trying to fight the invisible force that had held him there. He locked eyes with the woman who had her arms out hands turning into fists as he continued to struggle against her force.

He was forced to his knees by her. Sukuna was not like other people who would crumble in this moment of weakness. Instead, he continued to make eye contact with the woman as his grin grew wider he felt himself slowly regaining his strength.

He saw her grimace as now her hands trembled. The six-eyes user was gearing up for his attack right when her hold on the king had broken.

Sukuna wasted no time to get back up and beelined straight for her. He held her chin in his hand squishing her cheeks as he spoke, "You think you can contain me?"

She tried to kick and punch at him which only entertained him, women these days were so audacious.

Witnesses said the two had a longer conversation but no one wanted to be near Sukuna so no one except those two knew what was said.

Then everyone present witnessed Sukuna digging his hands into Mikoto's chest snatching her heart out and pulling it from the blood vessels still keeping it attached to her body.

Since then Okamoto's second curse came to be where they were no longer blessed by Uzume. They wondered why she had abandoned them. Was it because Mikoto was too weak?

With the clans feuding after the Gojo and Zenin heads' deaths, the Okamoto was dragged into the never-ending blaming others for the shortcomings of one's clan.

They decided enough was enough and this was the reason for Mikoto's death, always wanting to be on top, never caring for one another, and corrupt behavior clouding the mission of sorcerers. It all led to Okamoto Mikoto's death.

So they broke off. They parted from the other clans vowing to never show their face.

And that led them to the life of hiding away from Jujutsu society despite being ever present in it. The Okamoto clan members stuck to the shadows, doing their work during the darkest hours of the night to prevent run-ins with normal people. It was also easier to keep tabs on any Jujutsu high activity this way.

Until Ayumu and Kazumi were caught by Gojo Satoru.

-

It has been fifty years since the last Kagura performance was successful. Even with the last one being successful 50 years ago she was no Mikoto.
