"This is Channel 7 Action News at noon. Good afternoon. I'm Harrison Palmer, and I'm Jackie Young. We begin with today's top story of what police are describing as a crime of passion and rage in the quiet New York City Suburb of Scarsdale that ended in a tragic murder-suicide. We go live now to Dale Gordan, who's on the scene with further details. Dale, what do you have for us?"
"Yes, good afternoon, Harrison and Jackie; this is Dale Gordan reporting live from the affluent and usually quiet subdivision of Hallow Hideaway, where police are investigating the apparent murder-suicide of a twenty-eight-year-old white female and a thirty-year-old black male, whose bodies were found in the house behind me. The female victim has been identified as prominent photographer, fashion designer, and business owner Rhonda Lyon and the male is identified as up and coming attorney Travis Witherspoon. Investigators haven't been able to tell us much but what they have told us thus far is that Rhonda Lyon is the wife of Empire Enterprises CFO Andre Lyon, son of Hip Hop Mogul Lucious Lyon. It appears that Mrs. Lyon was engaging in a torrid affair with Mr. Witherspoon here at his home, when things took a turn for the worse."
"I spoke with the lead detective working this case, Michael House, who had this to say..."
"We got a call from one of Mr. Witherspoon's neighbors around 10 a.m. this morning stating that they'd heard gun fire coming from inside Mr. Witherspoon's residence. Once our officers responded they found the back door of the home ajar and upon further inspection of the house they discovered the bodies of Mrs. Rhonda Lyon and the homeowner Mr. Travis Witherspoon. It appears that Mrs. Lyon had been strangled and then Mr. Witherspoon decided to shoot himself, taking his own life in the process. We did uncover evidence inside confirming that these two individuals where indeed having a secret affair with one another, and it appears that based on that evidence Mr. Witherspoon wanted Mrs. Lyon to leave her husband but when she refused, he took matters into his own hands by taking both of their lives. The families of both parties have been contacted and we will have more information on this situation upon the completion of our investigation."
(Back to Dale)
"That was lead detective Michael House that we just heard from there. Police officials say that they are handling this situation with extreme care, considering the status and profile of those involved. We've reached out to Empire Enterprises for a statement, but we have yet to receive a comment. We'll be here all day as this situation unfolds to bring you up to the minute details as we receive them. This is Dale Gordan, reporting live.... Channel 7 Action News. Back to you Harrison."
Lucious turned off the plasma screen along the wall then leered across the desk at Andre. Propping his elbow against the side of his seat, he took a deep breath, then ran his hand over his chin before speaking.
"They call you yet?"
"Yes sir, about an hour ago. They want me to come down to the morgue and identify the body in person, although I already identified her from the crime scene photos detective House showed me over the phone." He replied then leaned up a bit against the desk, Lu nodded.
"Dad, do I even want to know the details?" Andre asked the elder Lyon, a blank stare cast along his face. He was having conflicted emotions over his rash decision to tell his father about his now late wife's roll in Vernon's condition, but it was too late to turn back now.
Learning of Rhonda's infidelity tore a hole in his heart. Pure rage consuming him, he told his father every detail of their dirty little deed. No matter what he decided to do Rhonda probably would have ended up feeling Lucious' wrath regardless.... the extent of his reach was seemingly limitless.
If he had gone to the police, she may have turned him in too, so this situation was a lose-lose either way he rationalized it.
"I don't know what you're talking about, but if I did, does it really even matter at this point? Lucious calmly bellowed, hands resting atop his desk.
Hearing no reply he continued, "Now, a car should be downstairs waiting to take you wherever you need to go." The King instructed.
"Here," He tossed a tube into the lap of his oldest, "Spread some of this menthol under your eyes, so you look convincing when you walk outta here. I think the press is already starting to gather and put these sunglasses on when you get there, the spray on the bottom should help you keep tears flowing like a grieving husband ought to." He advised.
Dre did as his father instructed then handed him the tools used by actors for years when they needed to muster up instant tears on cue, back. He stood up and headed towards the office door.
"Dre." Lucious uttered, prompting him to stop his forward motion as his father strolled up beside him.
"Yes sir." He replied, his eyes already beginning to tint red as if he'd been crying.
"Foundation's been laid.... Now go sell it." He spat forth.
Nodding his head, Andre walked out of Empire and towards his waiting car as he prepared to literally and figuratively lay this chapter of his life to rest.
Lucious may have disposed of that pesky little white girl that Andre brought into his family but was it going to be worth it.
Vernon could recover and if he did, how would he handle the situation if he decided to still work with the feds against him?
