5 months later....

NO, SHE DIDN'T, this heifer just doesn't quit does she!

My eyes rapidly darting around, I sped past the security desk at Empire on my way to Vernon's office. He and I need to talk ASAP, this situation with Carter's ass is getting out of hand and I don't know why I thought that she'd let things rest.

I haven't heard from her in a while, but of course she done popped her dusty ass up from outta the brush once again with more shit.

Busting into his office, the phone glued to his ear, at the sight of my puckered lips and sour expression he quickly ended the call.

"What's the problem Cookie?" He retorted, leaning back in his chair, my arms folding across my chest.  I huffed, then walked right next to him and slapped the file in my hand down onto his desk.

"What the hell is this shit, Vernon?" I howled, as he picked up the file and opened it up.

Vern's eyes nearly bucked out of his skull once he started skimming the contents, suddenly he worriedly glared at me.

"Where'd you get this from girl?" He probed.

I put my hand on my hip, "That was in my damn mail this morning Vernon."

He stood from his seat and walked around a bit before speaking, "What do you mean it was in your mail?" He uttered after a few brief seconds.

"Exactly what I said, it was mixed in with the damn mail. But that's not the question, the more pressing question is why did I get a damn FBI interview transcript in the mail of you telling them that Lucious killed Bunky?" I blurted.

We never found out who the other person was that was supposed to testify against Lucious when the fed's arrested him a while back, but after the charges were dropped it really wasn't that important anymore, so we let it slide.

NEVER in a million years did I think that it was Vernon who snitched on him.

"Cookie look, let me explain aight." He stammered, "After he told me about killing Bunky I was feelin' some typa away about it. The day we met right before the IPO dropped, Lucious had me following you the entire day. He thought you had it in for him and honestly, I couldn't say that I blamed you. Anyway, I saw you coming out of that building on sixth street, so I went in it to see what type of building it was.  Finding out it was the FBI, I assumed that you went in to talk to them about Lucious." He expounded, rising from his seat.

Rolling my eyes, fury and heat simmering through my veins, this dumb ass.

"Okay, first off, you shoulda known good and damn well that I wouldn't do no shit like that Vernon. But regardless, what does that have to do with you giving them a statement?" I countered, our frames now standing directly across from one another in the center of his office.

"Cookie, I knew that if Lucious found out about you talking to them, regardless of the circumstances, that he woulda tried to take you out too. I couldn't let that happen to you, hell you'd sacrificed enough and already had to spend too much time away from your boys already. Me and you ain't always seen eye to eye, but I did it because I knew if Lucious went to prison, he wouldn't be able to hurt you." Tumbled from his lips.

I exhaled, my hands planted along my hips, I paced then turned my eyes onto his waiting ones. See this is the craziness that always seems to try and drag us into the mud every time I think things are starting to look up.

Vernon continued to speak, "But you know what, I never signed a formal written statement, I told them what happened, but while I was there all the officers rushed out to deal with a threat at the Embassy and I never got the chance to sign it. Lucious called me when Carter stepped outta her office, so I jetted. Once I came out of the comma they came by the rehabilitation center, but I denied every word and told them that I couldn't remember a thing." He babbled, striding back over to his desk, he evaluated the statement more in depth, then shot me a glance as if he's just had an epiphany.
