Miranda had a crush during her University time, that crush reminded her of Miyaze in everything he did. Even the nickname the crush gave himself reminded Mia of Miyaze.

After Mia left Uni, the crush went missing just like Miyaze.
Maybe Mia should have gone to the cops.
But then Miyaze just disappeared off the face of the earth.
