Chapter 14: Date

It was already the end of office hours. Haneul was walking out of her office when her phone received a text message.

| Before you treat me to dinner, can you come to a place first? I'll wait for you here. Come to this address, I hv something to show you | From: Jongseong

The next text was an address.

"Where is he taking me?" she said to herself. Haneul got into the car and drove to the address. She got out of the car to look at the empty building complex before her.

"Haneul!" Jongseong was waving at her from one of the buildings there. She went to him. "What is this place?"

He brought her inside one of the empty buildings that looked almost done.

"This is the new office!" he spread his arms and spun around with a huge smile. "New office?" she couldn't help but smile at him looking so excited. She had to admit he did look cute.

"You know about the merge. After lots of meetings with Dad and Appa and Hyunjae hyung, we decided to make a subsidiary company for medical technology, combining expertise from both Miro and ExploLab. But it will happen in the next year or so but I couldn't wait to show you!"

"Jongseong, this is great news!" she gave him a thumbs up.

"I know! I could hug you right now-"

Both of them met eyes. He panicked. "No- I mean.." he bit his lips as he could not fix the situation.

Haneul giggled, enjoying herself watching the shy boy panic. She spread out her arms. "Come here you"

Jongseong smiled and ran into her arms. He embraced her tightly, breathing her scent which calmed him. Haneul hugged him back, feeling his body warm, comforting. She slowly released him, looking at the handsome young man standing in front of her. His hair was disheveled, his eyes filled with excitement, smiling widely. But importantly his eyes looked tired, maybe from the hard work he had put to make the plan happen.

"You're doing great, Jongseong" she gave him a few encouraging pat on his shoulder. "You should be proud of yourself, remember that"

Jongseong smiled shyly. "It's weird listening this from you"

"Tsk you think I don't know how to say nice things" she rolled her eyes.

He continued to show her different rooms and what it was planned for. "The building next door is for researchers. I think we can easily extend the building if they need more space"

Haneul watched him explaining things with a smile. Jongseong sighed with a smile. "I know this will help a lot of people"

For a moment, she saw her brother in him, determined to help people. Jongseong saw her stare. He smirked, arms crossed on his chest. "You think I'm cool right?"

"Tsk" she scoffed, turning to continue exploring the building. "If you weren't such a dork I would think that"

"Can't you compliment me more?" he caught up to her. "I did earlier. Now let's go celebrate your birthday" she smiled.

They two enjoyed their dinner at a fancy traditional restaurant.

"You okay?" Jongseong asked as he noticed she stared at the meal before them.

"This is a lot of food!" she chuckled. "I'm surprised"

"Yup so eat a lot" "Yea you too"

"I got to be honest" she began. "Even after years, I sometimes have a hard time enjoying some expensive cuisine like this"

He looked at her, weirded out by her comment. 'Isn't she come from a rich family?'

"Our family was poor back then. Dad always uses money on his research and Mom always scolds him for it. Oppa would bring me to look at the stars to cheer me up. And one day, Mom and Dad decide to ask my late aunt for help. She lived in the suburbs. I lived with her until I'm in junior high. Because by that time Mom and Dad can afford taking care of two children and we get to enjoy all this sort of luxury. But it still feels weird though, to be able to enjoy lots of food and especially luxury ones" She stopped talking when she noticed his stare. She mustered a smile.
