Chapter 32: The Ones Left

"Jongseong, where are you?" Hyunjae asked in the call.

"Hyung" Jongseong's voice broke. He sounded like he had been crying for hours. "I'm still waiting in front of the emergency room"

"All right you wait there. I'm with Mom and Dad. We'll arrive in a few minutes. Your Omma and Appa?" "They just arrived at the parking lot"

"Isn't it too early than the estimated delivery date?" "I know. But Haneul said she's in pain and I just drive her here" "Alright, Jongseong. We'll be with you, okay?" "Okay. Thank you hyung"

Jongseong ended the call. He looked up to see his parents running to him.

"Omma, appa" he went into their embrace. "How's Haneul?" Mrs. Park asked. "She's still inside, I don't know what happen" Jongseong replied.

Minutes later, Hyunjae arrived with Mr. and Mrs. Lee.

"Jongseong" Mr. and Mrs. Lee embraced him. Jongseong mustered a smile.

The emergency room door suddenly opened. A nurse came out. "Mrs. Park's guardian?"

"Yes" Jongseong answered. "How's our daughter?" Mrs. Lee asked. She was already crying in panic.

"Mrs. Park is stable for now. But her babies' condition are weak" the nurse replied. "For now, we need to try to save them first. We should keep her under observation for a few more hours just to be safe. And we need the husband inside. Mrs. Park requested your presence"

Hyunjae's gasp was noticeable when the others had to turn to him. "Sorry" he whispered.

"Will you be okay with it, Jongseong?" Mr. Park asked. Jongseong nodded. But his hands already trembled. What would he witness inside there?

Jongseong had to wear the scrub and followed the nurse to the operating theater. He could see Haneul at the center of the room, lying weakly. It tore his heart.

Upon entering the room, the cold air hit him. His only focus was on Haneul.

"Mr. Park" the doctor greeted him. Jongseong bowed back. The doctor explained Haneul's current condition and that they need to deliver the babies at that time to ensure the twins survive.

"What about my wife?" Jongseong asked. His eyes went to Haneul who gave him a weak smile.

"This operation is risky but ... Mrs. Park made her decision for us to save the baby first" the doctor took time to answer him.

Jongseong turned to Haneul again, who was still smiling weakly at him. She nodded. Jongseong bit his lips, holding his tears. "Alright, I understand. Thank you doctor"

"Will you stay in here with your wife-" "I'll stay here with her" "Alright then"
