"Again." Shota kicked Izuku in the back causing him to face plant in the dirt.

"Must you do that every time?" Izuku groaned.

"Is that a complaint? Hitoshi, would you say that's a complaint?"

"Sounds like a complaint to me." Hitoshi's voice shook as he struggled to force Pixie-Bob to do more complex things.

"No, it's not! I love being kicked in the back! It's so much fun!" Izuku smiled nervously.

"That's ten burpees at the end of the day. Every time you do something I don't like, the number will be doubled. Now, again."

———

"I hate you stupid heroes. Leave me alone." Kota glared at Izuku.

"But I brought you dinner." Izuku held out the box full of dinner. Kota stared at Izuku for a long time, judging him, before taking the box.

"Go away, stupid hero."

"You know, it's kind of comforting to be called a hero by someone I don't know. People don't usually like me since I'm quirkless."

"Are you deaf? I said I hate you and you're stupid."

"And I've been told more painful things. At least you hate all heroes and not just me. Although, I'm not a hero. I'm training to be one, but I'm not one."

"The Pussycats think you are. Except for Pixie-Bob. They got into a big fight about it after watching the Sports Festival. I hate them all."

"I get that." Kota looked at Izuku like he was crazy. Izuku merely laughed. "It's easy to hate. Your parents died because they were heroes, and there weren't any heroes who could really help you. Even if they tried, they couldn't take away the pain. I can understand that. There are many heroes that I hate, but there are many heroes that I love."

"Why?"

"There are a lot of heroes who save people as long as they have quirks. Unfortunately, there's a lot of them."

"Pixie-Bob doesn't like the quirkless, do you hate her?"

"No. She'd risk her life for a quirkless despite how she feels about us. I may not like her, but I don't hate her either."

"That's stupid, risking your life for others. Why don't they just come home."

"Some heroes do it for the money. Some people do it for the fame. Some people do it out of obligation. Then there are those who do it just to save other people."

"Why do you do it?"

"I want to save people. The quirkless aren't treated as equals. We're constantly put down because we can't contribute to society without a quirk. I want to prove to society that the quirkless are equals and I want quirkless children to be able to look up to someone and motivate them. I want quirkless children to grow up knowing they can do whatever they want to do. That's the major reason, but I also really like saving people. Anyone, really." If Izuku couldn't become a hero because people are too quirkist, he'd just become a vigilante. He would still be saving people, and since he doesn't have a quirk, he can't be charged as one.

"I still hate heroes." Kota declared.

"Right." Izuku hung his head.

"But maybe you're not so bad." That's a start that Izuku will happily take.

"How did you climb up here. I heard you complaining to scar face that you can't move."

"Scar face?" Izuku giggled. He'd have to tell Shoto that one. "His name is Shoto Todoroki, and  I am in a lot of pain. My dad kicked my a- butt today. My everything hurts."
