Chapter Thirty-Four - Research and Relaxation

I finish up my shift at work and go get Tom waving to Derick as we head out the door. We get in my car and head home. I park and we walk inside together. Gustav comes up to me and greets me with a kiss on the forehead.

"Welcome home my sweet." He smiles down at me and I smile back.

"It's good to be home." I pull out of Gustav's arms and head toward the library.

"Oh, you're going to the library today?"

"Yeah, I wanna do some research." I walk back to Gustav and place a kiss on his cheek before heading over to the library. I open the door and walk in looking for books on all the creatures in the human world hoping to learn more without having to bother anyone. I find about four books and start reading. I start on a book about fairies.

Fairies have been found in the human realm for thousands of years. Often being credited with the creation of the first sweets they have quite the sweet tooth, children used to try to capture them using sugar as bait. Fairies are also quite clever often tricking children out of their candy. Fairies are the real originator of the trick-or-treat Halloween tradition, creating it to satiate their large sweet tooth.

That explains Em's generous use of sugar in her coffee. I turn to another page this one about elves.

Although humans are often credited with the creation of coffee, in reality, it was an elf. Elves have been blending in with humans for thousands of years. Elves have been blending in with humans for so long that they often fall in love with and marry humans, often half human half elf children have slightly pointed ears. While elves don't have powerful magic they are often great healers, elves have an innate ability to heal small injuries such as cuts and scrapes.

So like Georg but probably with less licking. I look through the pages until I find one that interests me. Merpeople.

Merpeople often keep to themselves and don't travel to the human realm often as they'd much rather stay in the water where they remain safe. Merpeople didn't start surfacing until the industrial revolution started in the human realm causing pollution to many of their water-based homes. Due to the pollution some merpeople we forced to leave their homes and migrate to land to survive.

Humans are always destroying nature I'm not surprised about the merpeople having to move away. I read more and more about these creatures I had no idea were real. As I'm reading about witches I feel someone wrap their arms around me and place their head on my shoulder. I turn my head to see who it is. It's Bill.

"Hello dear, what are you reading?"

"I'm reading a book about all the creatures that live among humans, I want to know more about your world." I smile at him and he buries his face in my shoulder.

"(Name) you have to be one of the kindest humans I've ever met. When I'd go out to feed all I'd see was greed and selfishness. People do things to others to fulfill some selfish need. I've never seen that out of you. I've only seen kindness out of even towards us and we aren't exactly human." His arms tighten around me and I find myself leaning into his hold.

"That hasn't really changed how much I care about you guys. Human or not you guys have shown me nothing but love and kindness. Claws or not you guys mean the world to me. Even if you walked around the house in your demon form all the time I don't think I'd care cause no matter what form you take, you're still you." I place a kiss on his cheek and he turns me around so he can look me in the eyes. His eyes are slightly glossy as if he's holding back tears.

"You have no idea how happy I am hearing that." He holds my face with one of his hands and leans in kissing me. I smile into the kiss wrapping my arms around his neck. We pull away from the kiss and he smiles down at me.

"So you wouldn't mind Tom and I being more relaxed with our demon forms around you?" Bill questions me with a slight grin.

"Nope in fact I'm pretty curious about them it'd be nice to be able to see them casually instead of only seeing them when you guys are trying to protect me." I give him a reassuring smile and I notice his shoulders relax as if he's been tense. His body changes slightly his horns appearing along with a lizard-like tail. His eyes are a tint of purple and his nails seem to have sharpened. He isn't fully transformed but I can see that he's far more relaxed than he usually would be.

"It's nice to be able to relax around you one of the reasons our energy has been draining faster lately is due to us keeping up the human forms for extended periods." He leans down and places a kiss on my forehead. I smile and stand up.

"Then we should tell Tom huh?" I grab Bill's hand and walk out of the library with him.

Despite their jagged appearance, his hands are soft.
