Tim and Lucy may have formal police training, but Kojo still thinks of himself as a detective. He can sniff out wherever Tim hides the treats, and he scratches at the door that attempts to conceal them. Tim always says "no more" or "you have to earn it", but Kojo knows how to get the answer he wants.

Some detectives are really good at interviewing suspects and waiting for them to crack and provide the answers needed to solve a case. Kojo knows getting Tim to crack and give him what he wants is hopeless, however Lucy on the other hand...

When she comes over, after a few kisses in greeting, she walks over to the treats and feeds him one without needing to earn it. Tim rolls his eyes every time, but she huffs in an attempt to ignore him. He feels just as victorious as a detective who makes their suspect confess.

But, there was a larger case to crack than when Kojo would get more treats. He needed to know what exactly was the deal between Tim and Lucy. There was tension between them. Longing gazes when the other wasn't looking. Tim sighed deeply every time Lucy left the house. It was all so...confusing, but he was willing to use his detective skills to figure it out.

He was curious about the new human that came to the house. Her name is Rachel, and she has a nice smile. She spent a few nights at their house, and during that time, Lucy visited a lot less. Lucy promised she would still play with Kojo, but she seemed unable to keep that promise.

Tim woke up to his phone ringing. He answered grumpily, "You woke me up early, so this better be good, Chen."

Kojo perked up at the sound of Lucy's last name and tried to listen to their conversation, but he couldn't hear her voice over the sound of his excited panting.

"Fine," Tim groaned and fell back into his bed to lay down for another few minutes. Then, he remembered that Lucy would be over soon and started getting ready.

Soon enough, there was a knock at the door, and Kojo barked to announce the arrival of someone. Tim darted over to the front door to find Lucy with an easy smile.

"Hey," she murmured.

"Hey," he said casually.

Lucy walked around Tim to get on the floor with Kojo. "Hey, buddy. Ready for a hike? Yeah? Oh, you're such a good boy," she mused, then, she started busying herself with gathering the supplies she would need to bring on their adventure.

Tim leaned against his kitchen counter while furrowing his brow. "Wanna talk about it?" A question he never genuinely asked and wanted to hear the answer to before Lucy, but whenever she looked troubled, he was always interested in listening to her problems and soothing her worries.

"My mom called. I just need a few hours in nature and some quality time with my favorite dog." She smiled down at Kojo and continued busying herself with packing.

It was remarkable how easily she navigated his house in search of Kojo's things. For some reason, Tim liked it, but he refused to admit it. "I'll make some tea when you get back...just in case nature isn't enough," he offered. Usually, she liked to discuss things, and he was prepared to listen.

"You have my favorite?" Lucy wondered with a grin.

"I do." He would not admit that he ONLY had Lucy's favorite green tea just for the rare occasions when she came over to his house. One time, she had visited and poked fun at the fact that he did not have any tea, and afterwards, he went shopping to have stock on hand just for her.

"We'll be back in a few hours," she smiled. "Let's go, buddy," Lucy directed at the dog.

Kojo was happy for the hike, since Tim never takes him on them, but he's grateful he has this special activity to share with Lucy.
