Author's POV
The Same Night (Elara's house)
Her parents were looking at Elara a little disheartened while she was staring at the ground nervously, she knew she somewhere disappointed her parents with her rejection for the proposal. They were just sitting in silence making her more nervous by each passing second, rubbing her sweaty palms she asked,
"Kuch to boliye ammi-abbu, kya aap humse khafa hain?"
Her father sighed closing his eyes, but keeping a hand on her head,
"Nahi Ela beta, bas hume Zubeen lehze se kaafi pasand aaya tha, achha ladka hai, ache ghar se hai, achha kamata bhi hai, aapka khyaal bhi rakhta. To hume inkaar ki wajah nahi samjh aa rahi."
Elara bit her lower lip thinking,
Abbu, kaash aapko bata pati, ki haan Zubeen achha ladka hai. Par vo humare dil mein to nahi hain. Or jo humare dil mein hain, jinse hum mohobbat karte hain, unhe khuda jaane aap kabhi qubool kar paenge ya nahi.
She took his hand in hers and muttered,
"Jante hain abbu, aapki pasand galat ho hi nahi sakti, par kya kare hume Zubeen ke sath aage apni zindagi nazar nahi aate. Humare khayalaat nahi milte..." And to support her decision she went ahead with telling them her discussion with the guy about her career, and his thoughts clearly didn't made a good impression on her, "Abbu, humne unse baat ki thi nikah ke baad job continue karne ke bare mein or unhone saaf inkaar kar diya, he said women in his family don't work, and the men provide for them. After all aapne hume itna padhaya likhaya, ek bete ko jitna kamyab banate aapne utna hi hume banaya, you made me self-sufficient and a proud lady, not for sitting at home right? Itni padhayi, bahar jaa ke job experience ka kya fayda abbu agar hume ye sari mehnat ghar rehke hi waste karni hai? Hume house-wife banne se dikkat nahi hai, par vo hum tab banenge jab hume lagega ki hume khud kaam nahi karna. Par I still have a lot to achieve abbu."
Her mother smiled sadly, even though it pained her because according to her Zubeen's alliance was perfect for her daughter, but then she knew seeing the proud smile on her husband's face that her daughter again won in front of him. Her father happily patted her hand and hugged her sideways,
"I am proud of you, and aapne sahi kiya, my daughter won't compromise on anything. Don't worry bachha, we'll find someone who will support you and your dreams just like we did."
Her mother continued with her teary smile, "And love you more than us."
Elara flushed red at her mother's words making her parents chuckle when she huffed hiding her face in the safest place in the world, her father's chest mumbling,
"Kuch bhi ammi, aisa koi shaqs hai hi nahi."
But unknown to her, her thoughts straight away went to the man who conveyed his eternal love towards her the same day, and a thought crossed her head,
Abbu, humne dhundh liya hai aisa koi jo humare dreams ko aapke jitna support karta hai, hume humesha encourage karta hai. Kaash, jaldi hi main aap sabko sach bata paun.
