Author's POV

The sacred pyre was burning in the middle of the temple, slow chanting of hymns by the priest and temple bells echoed around creating a blissful moment for everyone. Everyone but THEM! The fire reflected in their eyes as the two sat performing the rituals which will tie them into the knot of marriage.

Armaan heaved a sigh as he sat there listening carefully to the priest, but it didn't hinder his concentration on the person sitting beside him like a statue

Armaan heaved a sigh as he sat there listening carefully to the priest, but it didn't hinder his concentration on the person sitting beside him like a statue. He looked at her, the girl he was getting married to, who technically should be happy and overjoyed at the prospect of being married, should be luminous with the wedding glow shining on her face but sat there with a dull and blank face. He couldn't deny he was happy, he was getting married to the girl he so loved. He has dreamt about this so many times, and it was finally happening. Not just him, he was aware even she dreamed about their marriage and even her dream was being fulfilled.

He couldn't surpass the feeling of agony as he knew he was the reason behind her pain and this blank posture at their wedding. After all, he had hurt her immensely. He acted foolishly, didn't value her enough, didn't fight for her enough, and gave her up. How would one be happy marrying a man who gives up on you? No one!

Inaayat here was blank. She didn't know what to feel. How was she supposed to react? Undoubtedly the man sitting beside her was the man she wished to belong to for the rest of her life. Now that it is happening, is she supposed to forget every single time he hurt her with his rejection and for what? For someone who gave her up again? Was she a ball that they were tossing between both of them? How much she wished to retaliate but her poor fate didn't give her liberty. The happenings of the last few days ran like a movie in front of her eyes, reminding her why she was sitting in the alter in the first place. And she knew she had to continue with this even though she doesn't want to.
