The hedgehogs left the mall as soon as the sun rose, making sure to put everything back into place before it reopened. They scooted across the busy streets of Empire City, Shadow still getting distracted by the motorcycle in the display window. He got to look at it for a few seconds before Sonic grabbed his arm and dragged him. They did stop by the same fountain again to rest up before they continued onwards.
A few moments later, they were on the outskirts of the city, for it was only seen in the distance. The three were already worn out from running, so they decided to take it slow and walk. "Whew! I'm burning up already!" Silver said with a sigh. He was fanning himself, but it still didn't exactly make a difference. He collapsed to the ground, and Sonic happened to look over and see a person holding a carboard sign with the words Empire City written on it.
"Hey Shadow. I think I can get us a ride," Sonic told Shadow, who looked at him weirdly. A van soon appeared in front of the person, and he jumped into the van, leaving the cardboard behind. It slapped Shadow in the face as he grabbed it. "This? This is your master plan?" Shadow asked Sonic as he slapped the cardboard in front of his face. Sonic took it and said, "What? You have a better plan?"
Shadow smirked and said, "Watch and learn." Silver was still on the ground, his bear in his front pocket as Shadow stood out in the road and held his arm out. He watched a car come by the two of them, but at the last moment, the dust the car sent blew Shadow off his feet, and he collapsed, coughing dirt up. That made the two hedgehogs laugh, making Shadow angry. "Yeah yeah laugh it up," Shadow moaned as he wiped the dirt from his overalls.
He looked at Sonic and scowled. "Do your master plan. I don't care at this point," he moaned as he sat down, arms crossed. "Heh. Seems like Shadow is in a mood," Sonic whispered to Silver, who laughed. Sonic then wrote the words Station Square on the other side of the cardboard and stood in the center of the road, a car heading towards him. "SONIC, WAIT!" Silver exclaimed as the car slammed its breaks, just inches away from Sonic's nose.
Sonic walked around the car, Silver and Shadow joining him as well as the front door opened, revealing a woman with a knife and sunglasses. Sonic trembled as he held the sign up, the woman lowering her sunglasses to see the Station Square scribbles on it. "Oh look Walter! It seems like these adorable little hedgehogs are going to Station Square as well!" she told her husband. Her husband, Walter, looked over and saw them. "Hey, hey! How about we say we take a little trip?" he said with a smile, his family cheering.
"That would be wonderful. Thank you!" Sonic exclaimed with a smile. "All abord the Nelson express!" Walter finally said as Sonic, Shadow, and Silver jumped into the car. Walter, who was also called Mr. Nelson, started the car and then they were off. The hedgehogs got to meet the rest of the family: Mrs. Nelson, their daughter Tina, their baby boy Binky, and their son Walter Jr.. It felt nice getting to meet new people while heading off to Station Square.
When Mrs. Nelson offered the hedgehogs some apple slices, Silver took one and ate it. "Mmm! These are good!" he exclaimed. She held her knife out to Sonic and Shadow saying, "You too! Growing...hedgehog like creatures need their strength." Sonic didn't hesitate and took the apple slice anyways. Shadow got one too, and Sonic decided to eat his. "Oh! It's really good! Try it Shads!" Sonic exclaimed. The black hedgehog looked at his and smiled. He ate it. "You're right. It's good," he said.
Mr. Nelson then stopped the car at a bank, Sonic wondering why they were stopping. "We'll be back in a moment. You three stay here," Mr. Nelson told the hedgehogs as he and his family headed out of the car. Seems like they're a crime family, Sonic thought as he watched them enter the bank. He and Shadow looked at each other and shrugged. The Nelsons then returned with some stolen cash in hand. "Oki doki, on the road again!" Mr. Nelson chimed as he started the car at a high speed, nearly throwing Sonic and Shadow out of their seats.
Silver was holding on from the front row as cops began to chase the car. "Dad! We've got company!" Tina exclaimed as she looked over the back seat. "It's because I tripped the alarm! I stink!" she sighed as she crossed her arms and sunk in the seat, Mrs. Nelson giving her husband a paintball gun. "Oh don't worry Sugarplum! You're still learning!" he told his daughter as he began to fire paintballs at the cops, blocking their windshields from view.
That still didn't make Tina feel better. "Your father is right Tina!" Mrs. Nelson said, reasoning with her daughter as she began to reload her husband's paintball gun. "This was only your first mission. We all mess up, but you do still have lots to learn." That made Tina feel better, since Sonic patted her shoulder. She smiled at him as Sonic gave her a thumbs up. When his paintball gun ran out of ammo, Mr. Nelson did the next best thing he could do: use a gun to shoot the police cars and get them out of range.
"We should help too!" Sonic then exclaimed to Shadow. The two began to look in the trunk for any useful weapons. While the bule hedgehog found a pistol, Shadow found a missile launcher. He smirked at Sonic. "Why you-" Sonic snarled as he and Shadow began to argue over who should use the launcher. "I found it first!" Shadow shouted. "No, I did! I should-" Sonic was cut off when he accidently pulled the trigger, a missile launching from the backseat of the car. Both Sonic and Shadow's eyes were huge when they saw what had been caused. Oh no... was the exactly thing that Sonic and Shadow thought.
The missile struck a water tank, and it fell onto some wires, water pouring from it. It stopped the police cars dead in their tracks as the rest of the wires fell down in the distance, the Nelson's car making its escape. "Ok who did that?" Mr. Nelson said with a small snarl as he turned to look at the two hedgehogs in the backseat. Both hesitated, before Sonic said, "Uhhhhh...it was Shadow." He handed the launcher to Shadow and pointed at him. "What, I didn't-" Shadow was cut off again.
"That was great!" Mr. Nelson finally said happily. Shadow and Sonic sighed in relief as Sonic grabbed the launcher again. The two began to fight over it before Mrs. Nelson interrupted them. "So...why are you three headed to Station Square?" she asked. Sonic was the one who placed the launcher in the trunk, and was about to answer before Mr. Nelson said, "I know why. It is because of Villaincon?" Sonic's ears perked at those words. "Yeah! That's where we're going too!" he exclaimed.
"Wow! So many bad guys in the car!" Mrs. Nelson exclaimed as Silver cheered from the front. Shadow sighed in relief again as he leaned his back against the seat. "We'll be at Station Square in a few more hours, so enjoy the ride alright?" Mr. Nelson then told the hedgehogs, who nodded. New friends and a car ride to Station Square? Now this was the best thing they could ever ask for. What they didn't know was back in Holoska, where the rest of the tribe was, they had seemingly found a master of their own. Let's just hope they don't kill this one this time.
