Fifteen: Gearing Up with a Giant Twist

"Gah! It's dawn already! I've gotta be fast! Well, I know fast is my middle name but still this needs to be quick!" Sonic exclaimed to himself as he saw the sunrise. He tried opening the door to Zeena's castle. It was locked. Of course it was. He had to think of another way in. That was when he spotted a nearby vent. It was gonna be dusty, but it was the next best option he had to breaking in.

Unlatching the vent, Sonic spin dashed into it and began to transverse through the ventilation system. "If I remember correctly, Zavok's lab is right next to that private treasury. If I can find the treasury, then I find the lab," Sonic then said as he spin dashed through the vents. He had to stop and look down at the treasury, seeing all of the goods that the two had stolen. The relics and motorcycle were still there, yet the motorcycle got Sonic thinking about Shadow. He would get it for him. That was until after he saved his friends.

After looking at the relics for a while longer, he spin dashed once again through the vents until he arrived at Zavok's lab. He recgonized the sounds of the beeps and of bubbling lava as he looked at it through the vent. "Bingo," Sonic said with a smile as he opened the vent and landed on the flooring of Zavok's lab. It felt weird being in the lab all by himself. It felt so vast, huge, and yet everything was right at Sonic's fingertips.

He looked around, hoping to find at least some weapons that would be useful in his battle with Zeena, yet he didn't see the villain army heading up to her castle to go catch Sonic. He then noticed Zavok's journal as he picked it up and blew the dust off of it. Flipping through the pages, Sonic looked at everything Zavok had written about Dark Gaia energy and the god's minions. The blue hedgehog was indeed impressed by everything he wrote.

Sonic decided to take the journal with him as he began to arm himself with weapons. Grenades, the lava guns(Sonic really did love using his when he, Shadow, and Silver all were tasked to steal the governor's crown), even some vales of Dark Gaia energy too as he wrapped them around his waist. After wrapping a piece of leather around his head like a bandana, Sonic twirled the lava guns and did a pose. "Haha! Now I'm ready for anything!" Sonic exclaimed with a smile.

The smile faded when he heard the sound of booms from below. "Oh no. They found me! But how?!" Sonic exclaimed in terror. He didn't know how they did, but Sonic knew he was in the fight of his life as the villains busted through the door to Zavok's lab, the golden Z lying down on the floor when it broke. Sonic flinched, but then he snarled, aiming the lava guns at the villains. "I don't know how you found me, but I'm not letting you take me!" he shouted.

Some of the villains laughed, the bounty hunter looking at Sonic and snarling, "How can someone as small as you take on an army of us?" Sonic just smirked in response and exclaimed, "Even the smallest of things can do great things. A friend of mine told me that!" After that, he blasted the lava guns at the hunter, his clothes singeing as he left the lab screaming his head off.

The Darkest Night growled and said, "CRUSH THE HEDGEHOG!" Villains began to charge at Sonic, and a whole battle erupted. Sonic spewed lava at some of the villains before he dropped the two guns and spin dashed into most of them. He did a backflip and wiped his thumb, smiling. The Darkest Night went in for an attack, both him and Sonic going neck and neck, but Sonic threw some grenades in his face, causing him to fall back. That gave Sonic the perfect moment to use the vales of Dark Gaia energy to create smoke, hoping it would blind them.

Even by being surrounded in purple smoke, Sonic kept his guard up as he looked around. "Come at me! I'm all yours!" Sonic exclaimed with a smile, getting into another battle pose. At the last second, Sonic didn't see a villain grab him from behind and throw him at a hard force. The throw was so hard, Sonic crashed landed right into Zavok's secret weapon. When the smoke cleared, the Darkest Night was seen arguing with the villain who threw Sonic. "What? You said crush the hedgehog, so I did!" he exclaimed to the Darkest Night. "Yeah, but not like that you dingdong!" the Darkest Night snarled.

Sonic couldn't get up due to how sore his body was from the throw, and the glass doors closed, trapping Sonic inside of the secret weapon. With the last bit of his strength, Sonic got up, body still a bit sore. He looked around, really seeing the inside of the secret weapon. Wires, buttons, even levers encased the thing on the inside, yet it was nicely painted on the outside. This is impressive...but yet I don't know what it does! Sonic's brain screamed. He then screamed for real as the villain who threw him shook the secret weapon, bonking Sonic up and down the machine, activating most of the buttons by accident.

"What are you doing?! You're going to activate the machine!" the Darkest Night yelled at the villain, who was only trying to help. When Sonic realized that the machine was fixing to blow, he closed his eyes in fear, readying himself for the worse. Turned out the machine didn't activate fully. Sonic sighed happily, leaning his arm against a voice recognizer. He gasped in shock when the recognizer activated itself, meaning that Zavok's secret weapon was about to activate fully.

"Gaiafication machine now fully activated," the voice spoke, freaking Sonic out. He looked around, realizing how tight the space was inside the machine. He thought it felt tight, but then he noticed that his whole body was shaking....and glowing a bright pink. Gaiafication?! No wonder Zavok wasn't joking about this being a secret weapon! Yet...something is wrong! Sonic's thoughts raced. He realized he still had the journal with him as he held it to his chest, the pink surrounding Sonic's body getting brighter and brighter as he moaned in pain.

The villains had to quickly leave the lab when they saw bits of the dark energy surround Sonic inside the machine as the machine spoke, "Activating in five...four...three...two...one." The machine spoke one, and the worst happened to Sonic as he realized why the machine felt so cramped inside. Sonic's entire body flooded the machine, only for it to crack and bust open fully as the entire castle began to collapse on itself.

Sonic closed his eyes as soon as the machine cracked open. He felt like something was grabbing him by the ears....and dragging him up into the air. Things happened to Sonic from the now collapsing castle. His shoes felt too tight for his feet, and they ripped open to reveal neon blue claws. The same happened with his gloves, claws appearing as well. Sonic felt his tail tingle as it extended into a stinger with a neon blue tip, and small horns appeared behind his ears and goggles as he groaned from the pain, his voice slowly deeping.

Patterns then flashed around his eyes as he felt the weird getting pulled up scenario get even worse as he felt his bones and limbs stretch and enlarge themselves. Sonic even got a headache as his entire body started taking up the entire castle, one of his arms breaking one of the side walls of the castle. It ended with Sonic's head popping out of the roof, his eyes still closed as he clenched his hands. Then, he just sat there in the midst of the rubble that was once Zeena's castle. 

When he opened his eyes, which were now a bright pink, he looked down at the villains staring at him in terror and shock. That made Sonic's eyes also widen, at the same time wondering how everything got so small. "Uhhh...hello?" Sonic said nervously, waving at the villains. The Darkest Night was the first to scream. "It's a giant hedgehog! Scram!" he yelled. The army of villains all fled the scene as Sonic watched them leave in confusion. He then touched his throat, realizing how deep his voice became. 

It took him awhile to process what just happened, but then he realized why everything was small to his perspective when he looked at his hands, which were larger in width and were adorned with claws. He had turned into a giant 40-50 foot tall hedgehog. The machine did experience technical difficulties, and Sonic just got to experience them. "What-" Sonic started, soon remembering Shadow and Silver. "Shads. Silver. I have to save them."

Sonic slowly tried to get used to his new body as he tried to get up, almost toppling a few times due to how big he was. He even got to experience himself fully when he was up on his feet. Asides from his hands having claws, his feet did as well, and Sonic could of sworn his legs looked like tree trunks. His tail was longer and was adorned with a stinger, and even when he touched the top of his head, he could feel horns coming from behind his ears and his goggles, which along with his clothes, had grown to fit him.

His heightened senses kicked in. He could see the governor's palace and even hear the sounds of barrels from far away. Sonic knew that time was about to run out for him. He had to save Shadow and Silver, even if it meant others seeing him as a giant hedgehog with Dark Gaia elements mixed into him, even if they were few. Sonic took in some breaths , and then took his first step. After taking a few more, he headed off to the governor's palace.
