Omega scowled as she threw her helmet against the wall.
"That's bad for the helmet," Crosshair commented as he leaned against the wall. "The more it hits something, the less protection it offers."
Omega rolled her eyes and sat at the table, resting her head on her arms. Crosshair sat next to her and pulled a toothpick from his belt.
"Hit me," Omega sighed.
"Excuse me?" Crosshair raised his eyebrows.
"I mean the toothpicks!" Omega glared at him. "Duh!"
Crosshair threw his hands up before handing her one. She put it in her mouth and went back to glaring at the wall.
"What's wrong with you?" Crosshair asked.
"Hunter's being a jerk again," Omega huffed. "He's coddling me. I'm seventeen for kriff's sake!"
"Language," Crosshair bemusedly warned.
Omega shot him a warning glance.
"I'm joking," Crosshair rolled his eyes. "Tell me what my di'kut of a brother did this time."
"We were training, and he took it easy on me!" Omega exclaimed, earning a sarcastic gasp from Crosshair. "He didn't even fight back when we were sparring!"
"Have you considered that it's because he cares?" Crosshair flicked the toothpick around in his mouth.
"I know that," Omega grumbled. "But how am I supposed to learn to defend myself when he's pulling stuff like this?"
"Have you talked to him yet?" Crosshair suggested.
"No," Omega admitted.
"Then why are you complaining to me? Go complain to him instead!" Crosshair nudged her arm.
"Alright," Omega chewed on her toothpick. "Thanks Crossword."
"What have I told you about using that nickname?" Crosshair whined.
"That you love it?" Omega smiled cheekily at him.
Crosshair glared at her. "Try again."
"Fine I'll think of a different nickname," Omega groaned. "Bye Crossword."
"See ya later ad'ika," Crosshair ruffled her hair.
Omega shoved his hand away and lunged at his head. Crosshair grabbed her hands and used them to gently punch her head.
"Why're you hitting yourself? Why're you hitting yourself?" Crosshair teased.
Omega wrinkled her nose at him and kicked his legs out from under him. He fell with a grunt and swept her legs out. They laughed on the floor together, before a set of boots stopped in front of them.
"What do you two think you're doing?" Hunter asked with his hands on his hips.
"Having some fun," Omega grinned at him. "You should try it sometime."
"I'm fun," Hunter grumbled. "I'm loads of fun. Tell them Tech!"
Tech looked up at them blankly. "What?"
"Tell them I'm fun!" Hunter ordered.
"Hunter is fun," Tech monotoned. "Happy?"
"Very," Crosshair got up from the floor and dusted himself off. "You proved us right."
"I'm fun!" Hunter crossed his arms. "Just yesterday I bought Mantell Mix for us!"
"Yeah you did!" Wrecker raised the carton in a toast.
"Can someone help me with the laundry?" Echo asked. "I can't do everything myself."
"I'll help," Omega sighed and got up.
Echo and Omega went off to do the laundry, while Wrecker tried to find the other carton Omega had hidden somewhere.
"You need to stop coddling the kid," Crosshair told Hunter.
"I don't coddle her!" Hunter defended himself. "I just did training with her today!"
"She told me you didn't even defend yourself," Crosshair accused. "You're coddling her, plain and simple."
"I just want to protect her!" Hunter said.
"I get that, I want to protect my ad'ika too, but one day there'll be a time where she has to protect herself," Crosshair lectured, "and she'll die because you didn't want to give her a bruise during sparring!"
Hunter ran his hand through his hair. "Fine! I'll do a better job!"
"That's better," Crosshair said, satisfied. "We all need to stop coddling her."
"For the records, I don't coddle her," Tech chimed in. "Just yesterday I helped her get a date with a boy at the market."
"I'm sorry what?" Hunter reared on Tech.
"What?" Tech blinked in surprise. "Was I wrong? Was I coddling her?"
"You got her a date?" Crosshair demanded. "What the kriff is wrong with you?"
"She said he was, and I quote, "cute" so I merely pretended to be an innocent bystander and trip her, sending her into his arms," Tech shrugged. "We have several plans in case something like this occurs, and we went with that plan."
"You- how many times has this happened?" Crosshair questioned.
"I don't know. She's had three boyfriends and four girlfriends if that helps you," Tech turned back to his project. "Not all at the same time of course, just over the course of that last two years."
"You're grounded Tech," Hunter declared. "No more setting Omega up with anyone."
"What?" Tech pouted. "All I did was try to assist our sister!"
"No arguing!" Hunter ordered. "Crosshair, keep an eye on him."
Crosshair nodded and sat next to Tech, who was still wondering what he did wrong.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go speak with Omega," Hunter sighed and went off to find her and Echo.
And from that point on, Tech wasn't allowed out with Omega without supervision, much to their dismay.
