"Mai." Y/n spoke as the girl awoke from her long slumber. Mai sat up, taking in her surroundings. "Y/n dear, I'm not quite sure about this brain scan. I can't figure out what's affecting it." Yut Lung called out from his work room. Y/n turned to his voice and then back at Mai. "Come with me." Y/n ordered helping Mai off the lifted bed in a guest bedroom. Sing had let them use it. It was also conveniently underground. Sing wasn't too happy about it however.

Entering the room Y/n stood next to Yut Lung leaning down to look at the computer. Mai stood next to Y/n. "There's something weird about it." Yut Lung spoke tapping the mouse twice to zoom into the x ray like brain scan. "This part here. Her hippocampus seems as if it was taken out and put back in at a point in time." Yut Lung explained pointing at the computer. "Hippocampus..?" Mai muttered with a finger on her chin.

We have to take out her hippocampus for this procedure

Mai froze, as her face went pale again. "Hippocampus is the part of the brain which stores your memory. Yours seems to have been tampered with. Do you have any memory of that?" Yut Lung asked turning to Mai. Mai however kept staring at the screen. Her eyes wide open almost as if they were forcibly being held open. "Mai?" Y/n asked waving a hand in front of her face.

We have to switch it with [redacted]

If she loses too much blood...what then?

I'm one hundred percent sure she'll live through the [redacted] you have to be patient [redacted]

Mai started to feel her face almost as if she was just reborn. "Take her back the guest bedroom. I'll examine her further." Yut Lung ordered. Y/n nodded taking Mai's hand. Mai shook her head and then looked around her once again. "Huh?" She asked and then looked down. "You're holding my hand! I think I'm going to die! You're literally my idol!" Mai shouted excitedly as hearts in her eyes seemed almost visible. Y/n sighed.

This is so weird.

Yut Lung took his tools and his computer after Y/n had sent Mai to sleep. "She asleep?" Yut Lung asked setting his computer down on a wooden table and taking out a needle. The x ray of her brain was opened up on his screen. "I'm going to do a blood test just to be sure. Before you came into this, about four years ago there was a drug called Banana Fish. She's showing some effects of that drug, I want to make sure that's not the case here." Yut Lung explained inserting the needle into Mai's arm. "Banana Fish huh? That fish in Salinger's book." Y/n replied watching. "You read Salinger?" Yut Lung questioned pulling the needle out and putting a tight cap on the tube of blood.

Y/n cleaned the excess blood from Mai's arm before sticking on a bandaid. "It was in the stack of books you gave me to read." Y/n slightly smiled remembering the bittersweet past. "Hm." Yut Lung muttered. "That x ray of her brain. Her hippocampus seems like it was taken out as some point. I looked closer into it, and apparently it wasn't only her hippocampus, the other structures in her temporal lobe also seem to be out of place. Her brain keeps detecting someone else's structures." Yut Lung explained walking back to his work room. "Someone else's?" Y/n asked taking the blood test tube and setting in inside the hole of a machine for Yue to examine.

"I didn't want to believe it, since I'm sure the procedure had a low chance of survival, but if this is what her brain looks like." Yut Lung paused looking at the results on his screen. "An unknown substance." He read out loud. Y/n came up next to him. "Wait what's wrong with her brain first?" Y/n asked. "Oh right, I think someone stuffed her brain with someone else's hippocampus and attempted to replace her entire temporal lobe. But later decided they didn't want that. The only way I can see that the procedure worked is that they had the same blood type, which in Mai's case would be A." Yut Lung spoke typing something in and getting the structure of the substance.

Yut Lung stood in silence, as he quietly examined the structure. Y/n anxiously waited for him to say something. "This unknown substance must be an early form of Banana Fish. The structure is almost identical but with a few minor differences. It doesn't cause the victim to go berserk and kill themselves, this one mainly seems to cause flashbacks and hallucinations. It's not very serious, but any small thing that triggers something causes a flashback." Yut Lung said. Y/n thought for a moment. "What does that mean?" She asked. Yut Lung closed the blood test and logged off of his computer.

"This means, we have a lot more work to do. I don't see Mai as a threat. If anything she's a victim without knowing it. However, there's no way of knowing who's brain was meshed in with hers unless we take a bit of that leftover brain tissue." Yut Lung sighed setting his head on Y/n's shoulder. "But I'm so tired." He muttered. Y/n hugged him. "Take a break. You've been working for the past twelve hours." Y/n slightly laughed playing with his hair. "Do you think we'll survive?" Yut Lung suddenly asked. "Well, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't." Y/n replied in a joking manner. Yut Lung stood back up and crossed his arms. "Don't go scaring me it's been four years, we promised in that last video." He started as Y/n's face flushed in red.

"Yeah, yeah I know! I promised to marry you by the time I was twenty five, jeez." Y/n said hurriedly.

As things are now I'm not so sure, however.

Yut Lung fixed his rounded glasses and moved his hair out of the way. "You should go check on Mai. The drug also consists of hallucinations." Yut Lung reminded. Y/n nodded and waved her hand at him. As Y/n walked over to Mai's room Sing came down. "If she gets some of us killed I'm killing you personally." Sing whined. "For an eighteen year old you sure are whiney." Y/n taunted entering Mai's room. "I'm serious! She could be tricking us!" Sing insisted. "And I think you're paranoid, Yue ran some blood tests and a scan of her brain. He says Mai's brain was mashed with someone else's." Y/n explained watching Mai sleep. Sing watched. "Her breathing is a little off don't you think?" He asked watching as her chest fell but didn't rise for a good thirty seconds.

"Yeah, but when we put her on a monitor it didn't detect anything." Y/n said putting a hand on Mai's chest. "Her heart keeps beating." Sing leaned against the wall. "You think this girl, and C/n could be connected?" Sing asked. Y/n turned to Sing. "Actually, I think everything is connected."
