The drive back home was filled with an awkward silence until Beomgyu decided to break the ice. "Was that your friend back there?" he asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
"Hmm?" Minji replied, sounding confused as she turned to Beomgyu. She noticed how he seemed uneasy, avoiding her gaze and swallowing hard.
"The tall guy back there, he's your childhood friend, right?" clarified Beomgyu.
Finally understanding, Minji replied with a tiny smile on her face, remembering her conversation with Soobin. "Oh yeah, he's my best friend, Choi Soobin. We've been friends forever, and it was nice meeting him after such a long time."
Seeing her smile while talking about Soobin, Beomgyu clicked his tongue, suddenly feeling irritated for no reason. He loosened the tie on his neck and proceeded to ask, "Do you perhaps like him more than as a friend?"
Taken aback by the sudden question, Minji decided to tease him a bit, "Why? Are you jealous? Did you fall for me that quickly?"
Minji turned fully towards Beomgyu, leaning a bit closer with a playful smile on her face. Beomgyu returned the smile and asked, "What if I did fall in love with you? Would you accept my feelings?"
Surprised by his sudden confession, Minji quickly backed away and turned to look out of the window, trying to hide her blushing face. She replied in a flustered tone, "Quit playing around and focus on the road."
After a long and awkward drive, they arrived at Beomgyu's house, which turned out to be much larger than Minji expected, but she wasn't surprised considering it was Beomgyu she was married to. As she got out of the car, she struggled to walk on the grass in her heels.
"Need some help, Mrs. Choi?" Beomgyu called out with a playful tone. Minji turned to see him leaning against the car with his coat on top of his shoulder, looking undeniably attractive.
Rolling her eyes, she retorted, "Why would you want to help me now? There's no one around to see."
He walked towards her, stopping just inches away, and replied, "Don't I have to be a responsible and caring husband?"
Ignoring his comment, Minji started walking towards the house, but to her surprise, Beomgyu suddenly appeared in front of her, kneeling on one knee.
"Hop on, I don't want to see my lovely wife struggling to reach the door all night," he said with a grin.
Laughing, Minji playfully jumped on his back, wrapping her arms around his neck while he supported her legs. He carried her to the front door and set her down gently.
"Maybe you could thank me when I do something nice for you next time?" Beomgyu teased.
Minji gave him a sarcastic smile and said, "Thank you, Beomgyu."
Beomgyu swung the doors open, and they were greeted by the house workers. An elderly woman approached Beomgyu and handed him a set of keys. He held Minji's hand and led her up the spiral staircase. Walking through the long corridor, they stopped in front of a huge white door with a golden border, which Beomgyu announced as their room.
"Our room?" Minji asked, surprised. "I won't be sleeping by myself?"
Beomgyu shook his head and leaned closer to Minji's ear, his voice husky and deep, "We don't want any of the house workers to snitch on us to our parents or the media, right?"
Minji backed away and replied, "Okay, jeez! I get it, no need to come so close to say that."
Beomgyu opened the door, revealing an enormous room with simple decorations. The king-sized bed was neatly placed in the centre, and a big painting hung over it. A balcony with a swing could be seen on the left side. The room exuded luxury yet simplicity, perfectly fitting Minji's taste.
