When Beomgyu woke up the next morning, he was greeted by an empty space next to him on the bed. Instead, a tiny sticky note caught his attention, affixed to a cup of hot coffee resting on the nightstand.

The note read:

"I wish I could be with you right now, but I can't. My manager would actually kill me. Buttttt... I made coffee for you.
Love you."

A soft smile spread across Beomgyu's face as he reached for the note and read Minji's affectionate message. He knew she had a busy schedule, but her small gestures of love never failed to brighten his day. With a contented sigh, he got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to start his day, knowing that he had to visit his mother's old office, which was now managed by Mrs. Choi, a prospect that always filled him with a sense of trepidation.

Beomgyu opted for casual attire that day as he prepared to meet with his 'mother.' As he parked near the entrance, he couldn't help but feel a sense of irritation wash over him at the prospect of another one of these meetings. Mrs. Choi, with her snake-like features and a sly smile that seemed to be her perpetual expression, was already waiting.

"Beomgyu, it's been a while. How are things going with Minji?" Mrs. Choi inquired with her usual air of subtle manipulation.

"It's none of your business," Beomgyu retorted, his annoyance palpable.

Most people might have been disheartened or looked down at such a response, but Mrs. Choi merely smiled and continued walking inside. Rolling his eyes, Beomgyu begrudgingly followed her. These meetings always left a bitter taste in his mouth, and he couldn't help but wonder about their true purpose.

In Mrs. Choi's office, an unusual box sat in the corner, catching Beomgyu's eye. He couldn't recall ever seeing it before, but he decided to push aside his curiosity for the moment. The meeting with Mrs. Choi dragged on for nearly an hour, during which Beomgyu kept himself occupied by texting Minji. Unbeknownst to him, a small smile crept onto his face as he exchanged messages with her.

"Is something funny, Beomgyu?" Mrs. Choi's voice interrupted his momentary bliss, her expression displaying irritation.

Beomgyu hadn't even realised he was smiling while texting, but he swiftly masked it with a stone-cold expression.

"Nothing, Mrs. Choi."

She let out an exasperated sigh, "Aigoo, Beomgyu, I've told you to call me mom many times!"

Beomgyu couldn't help but scoff inwardly at her words, knowing all too well the facade she put on in front of others to appear as a loving mother to him. As the meeting continued with Mrs. Choi and several business partners discussing various matters, the group eventually decided to take a break and get some refreshments. However, Beomgyu chose to stay behind in the office.

With Minji occupied, Beomgyu couldn't call her, so he resorted to pacing around the spacious room. His curiosity, however, got the better of him as he approached the mysterious wooden box. It was surprisingly easy to open, revealing a stack of documents inside. Initially, Beomgyu considered closing it back up, but one word on one of the pages caught his attention—Choi Mina.

His curiosity piqued, he picked up the file and began flipping through its pages. One document contained a list of financial transactions made by Mrs. Choi to various individuals. Among them was a name that sent shivers down Beomgyu's spine—Settling Choi Mina's death.

Settling Choi Mina's death? Did Mrs. Choi plan my mother's death? Was that why the truck came out of nowhere, on that day especially? Beomgyu's mind raced with these disturbing thoughts as he placed the files back into the box.
