The weeks following Miyeon's recovery brought a collective sigh of relief to Minji and her family. Seeing her sister regain her health and vitality was a tremendous comfort, and Minji's heart grew lighter with each passing day.
Amidst the whirlwind of emotions and responsibilities, she couldn't help but notice Beomgyu's subtle yet noticeable shift in behaviour towards her. His presence seemed to gravitate towards her, and his efforts to capture her attention didn't go unnoticed, which never failed to make her heart do things it wasn't supposed to.
With Beomgyu's 27th birthday on the horizon, Minji felt a growing determination to make the day special for him. She wanted to express her appreciation and affection through a thoughtful gesture, something that would make him smile and perhaps bridge any lingering gaps between them.
However, every time she attempted to broach the subject or drop hints about birthday plans, Beomgyu would quickly divert the conversation or dismiss the topic entirely.
Minji found herself puzzled by his reluctance, unsure of the reason behind his resistance. She wondered if it was a matter of personal preference or perhaps he had something specific in his mind. Nonetheless, her determination remained steadfast, and she was determined to find a way to celebrate Beomgyu's birthday in a way that would truly resonate with him.
One day, as Minji caught Beomgyu in the bedroom, towel-drying his hair after a shower, she decided to seize the moment. She greeted him with a smile, which he eagerly returned, his arms opening for a hug. However, Minji held back her embrace, a small chuckle escaping her lips instead.
"Sit down, I need to talk to you about something," she said, her tone slightly more serious.
With a curious yet compliant expression, Beomgyu took a seat on the edge of the bed, his damp hair giving him a slightly disheveled appearance which made him look attractive for no reason.
Minji took a breath and began, "So, you know how your birthday is tomorrow, right? Are you absolutely sure you don't want—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Minji was met with an unexpected interruption. Beomgyu's demeanour changed in an instant as he stood up abruptly, his tone turning sharp and almost defensive.
"I don't know how many times I have to say this, Minji, but I really don't need anything. You don't have to trouble yourself over it," he said, his words laced with a touch of irritation.
Minji sighed, feeling a pang of hurt at his reaction. She stood up as well, her disappointment evident on her face, and without another word, she turned and left the room.
Beomgyu watched her go, a mix of guilt and frustration swirling within him. He knew his response had been harsher than intended, but he couldn't bring himself to reveal the real reason behind his reluctance to celebrate his birthday. It was a painful secret he had kept buried for so long.
On the eve of Beomgyu's birthday, an unusual silence hung between Minji and him as they lay side by side. The atmosphere felt heavy, but Beomgyu couldn't bear the distance any longer.
With a resigned sigh, he turned towards her, his determination overcoming the tension in the air. Gently, he scooted closer, his arms encircling her waist.
Over the weeks following the incident at the hospital, their relationship had grown remarkably close, and Beomgyu found solace in holding her close as they slept.
However, Minji's voice cut through the silence, breaking his momentary reverie.
"Beomgyu, let go of me," she requested firmly.
His playful side emerged, and he tightened his hold on her, a hint of mischief in his response.
"You can try to escape, but I can't promise I'll let you go."
