It's Him

Soobin and Kai were going about their routine, as usual. This time, the yellow-haired man had to step in to help Soobin treat a dying patient. A hit-and-run victim.

Kai, alongside several fellow nurses, were meticulously cleaning up the clotted blood while Soobin was analysing the condition of the victim's body. There was a lot of damage there. Three ribs were broken and his chest had hit something hard, causing his lungs to rupture. 

This patient's survival rate was slim. His family was waiting anxiously outside. Kai, who had finished with his task, walked over to Soobin, who looked anxious and agitated.

"This will be a major operation, but..." Soobin left his sentence hanging.

"We're just gonna have to go for it. Whether or not he survives will be up to him. Let's do everything we can," Kai said encouragingly.

The two continued the procession in the specialised surgical room. Yoona informed the victim's family about their plan. The family could only surrender and leave everything to them.

The patient had lost a significant amount of blood, and his pulse grew weaker and weaker. The two young doctors worked very hard. The assistants continued to work while occasionally observing the changing graphs on the monitor screen.

The operation lasted for seven hours. The door to the room finally opened, and Soobin came out followed by Kai close behind. The victim's family rushed over, their faces filled with worry and anticipation. Soobin took off his mask.

"The patient survived. It's just that his condition is very weak. It will take a while for him to recover." Soobin explained. The mother of the victim breathed a sigh of relief amidst her tears. They all hugged and thanked the two young doctors profusely.

For the time being, they were not allowed to see the patient because the room had to remain sterilised for some time. They could only see through the glass window and only officers could enter to check on the patient's condition.

Kai hugged Soobin. Both of them fell limp. It's a good thing the door to the room was locked. Otherwise, his image as a cool doctor would have instantly disappeared. Kai took off his clothes so that the upper part of his body was exposed, he stood facing the air conditioner while spreading his arms as Rose did in the movie Titanic. As for Soobin, he lay down on his desk. Occasionally whistling a small tune in an indistinct tone.

"Hey..." Kai called to Soobin.

"Hnn..."

"You still want to chase after him, huh?" Kai asked. He was now sitting cross-legged while waving his undershirt in the air.

"Hahh... I don't know, I haven't seen him in a while," he said staring at the ceiling unblinkingly.

"Out of all the creatures on this earth, why does it have to be a vampire? It's really surprising." Kai said.

"I don't know, just following my instincts." Soobin retorted casually.

Kai snorted rudely. Honestly, he had no problem with his best friend's sexual orientation. It was just, why a vampire? He recalled a story that his grandmother had told him, about a couple in the same predicament as Soobin. The end of their story was painful and tragic.

The two young men walked back to their apartment now that their shift was over. It had been a tiring day. They made a quick stop at a Chinese food stall. After waiting in the queue for a while, their turn came.

After shopping, Soobin and Kai continued their journey. But, suddenly they stopped. The yellow-haired man stared into the distance at a somewhat closed-off area near the border. It looked like someone was fighting there. Soobin, who was confused by Kai's behaviour, started asking questions.
