( chapter two, tragedy befalls the beholder. )

NIGHT HAD COME in a flash, no twinkling stars or clouds were in the sky, just pure darkness. Mountains and mountains line the ground above them, it was so dark that Sadie could only see the outline of the hills below and she wondered if one could survive a fall from a helicopter at this height, with the help of the mountains to catch their fall.

Sadie scratches her cheek, the blood from the undead dry on her pale skin and it peels away with her fingernails. Bits of it gets stuck under her cuticle and she grimaces at the sight. It won't matter if she picks it out, they'll get dirty with muck again tomorrow.

"Nick?" Luciana mumbles, her head laying on a bag on the seat under her. She squirms in her sleep, eyes darting back and forth under her eyelids. Alicia rubs the woman's shoulder, "You'll see him soon." She looks up from Luciana, eyes flitting to Travis, who tiredly looks back at her.

Sadie turns around to where Jake and a woman sits, manning the controls of the helicopter, "How much longer?" She loudly asks and Jake looks over at her, "We're about twenty out." He turns away, looking forward as he mutters to the woman beside him, "Let's take her up a bit."

"She'll get knocked around in higher air, but your call." Jake looks over at Luciana's sleeping form, sweat beginning to form on her tanned skin. It clings to her hair, making it, in turn, stick to her forehead. "Eagle One to base. We're twenty out. Commencing radio silence, over."

More helicopter jargon comes from Jake's mouth, something that Sadie can't understand and she tunes it out as she softly smiles at her step-father. Her smile quickly fades as a bullet pierces one of the windows of the helicopter, and the vehicle begins to rapidly shake, throwing Sadie and everyone in it off-balance.

She quickly grabs onto Travis to steady herself, her step-father doing the same as he looks back at Jake and the woman in the front. "We're taking fire!" More bullets hit the chopper, "I know, I know."

"Evading. Hold on." The woman states and Sadie's grip on Travis' arm tightens at her words. Alarms ring out through the helicopter, more bullets hitting the vehicle as it does. "Eagle One to base, we've been hit."

Glass shatters and blood sprays over Sadie's face, she looks up at Travis in shock as he holds the side of his neck. Red liquid spurts out between his fingers and Sadie sobs, "Travis!" She covers his hand with hers, hoping to put more pressure on the wound to prevent more blood from leaking out. It doesn't work as it soon begins to coat his and her hands along with his coat.
