( chapter eighteen, a little miracle. )

trigger warning! child birth.

"WHAT THE HELL is this mess?" Sadie covers her mouth behind a tree, listening closely as another voice answers Merle, "They did this." She glances over at Troy, his index finger pushed against his mouth as an indication to be silent. With widened eyes, her ears focus on the southern drawl of Merle, "It means something, the way it's all set up like that."

"The Governor was right to send us out."

"Damn straight, Tim."

Sadie to the left of her and Troy, blue eyes centering on the lithe figure of Michonne, her katana gripped tightly as she waits for an opening. "We're doing a righteous public service here." Tim, the voice previously, speaks up, "What about that pregnant lady? I mean, we can't–" Merle interrupts the male, southern voice stern as he states, "She's just another mouth to feed. Righteous public service."

Troy grits his teeth at the one-armed man's words, his hand gripping his knife tightly to the point his knuckles are a ghastly-white another mouth to feed, she was anything but that. She's his and no one would lay a hand on her, let alone a finger. Sadie notices Troy's reaction and squeezes his free hand as she peaks her head around the tree, blue eyes centered on the backs of the Governor's men — watching as a curly-haired man breathes out, "Go back." As they turn to look at him, Sadie quickly moves back behind the tree, a shaky breath leaving her lips as she does. "What?"

"The arms are a G. The legs make an O. And that's a back." The curly-haired man explains, knife pointed to the gruesome display on the forest floor. Sadie bites down on her lip, recalling Michonne cutting apart the biter and her almost throwing up her breakfast at the sight though she couldn't fault herself for it, the baby was making everything difficult with the pregnancy and the apocalypse wasn't helping matters. "It says, 'Go back'."

Merle laughs, "This is too good." With their backs turned to Sadie, she peaks her head out again, watching as Merle stands and gestures to the message with his metal stump—now having a knife attached to it—as he says, "Look at this. They sent us a biter-gram, y'all." More laughter escapes Merle, and the rest follow suit except for the curly-haired male, who utters out, "I don't believe this is happening." Swiftly, she goes back behind the tree as Merle turns, face hardened as he steps to the curly-haired male, "Hey, hey!"
