( chapter fourteen, a month later. )

THEY WERE OUT. Out of Mexicali, out of the wasteland. They've managed to survive the wilderness, making it through Arizona, through New Mexico, Texas — all the way to Georgia. It took a month of walking, the latter half of the month they found a car, but quickly it broke down just as they got into Georgia.

Troy's injury had managed to heal in between the month getting to Georgia, the bandages around his head now gone and no longer needed. The side of his head has a scar now, almost looking like a piece of burnt skin from the way it healed — it didn't bother Troy, it was simply something he holds now. His left eye wasn't his normal mesmerizing blue anymore, it was now a milky white, with bits of red cresting the sides of his eye. Halfway to Georgia, in a bathroom of a house, he saw himself for the first time in weeks — it was a fright, to say the least, when he saw the condition of his left eye.

Sadie still wasn't showing, no bump to show off her pregnancy. Her symptoms, though, were another story — she was waking up every morning feeling sick, her clothes were a tighter fit now, with her having to loosen her belt a bit to accommodate her growing stomach. In a month, Troy had managed to help her with her aim, including with the pump-action shotgun they found before fully leaving Mexicali. Sadie still wasn't a perfect shot, but it usually took her about two shots to land a headshot on an undead.

She still kept her machete close, using it more than the guns, her reasoning being they needed the ammo in case of raiders. Troy agreed with her.
