( chapter three, dead weight. )
trigger warning! talk of suicide & substance abuse.SADIE CLARK WAS happy, for once in a long time, it had been a long time coming as she stares around the room, sitting down beside Alicia as the teen takes a hit from the bong offered to her. The room spins for a moment as she whirls her head over to where Gretchen takes a bird cage out of a barrel.
The brunette stares for a moment, eyes squinted as the blurry image of the bird cage sharpens and reveals an undead's decapitated head laying in the cage. "Say hi, Geoff." Gretchen mischievously says, setting the cage on the table in front of Alicia and Sadie. The drunken brunette giggles in disbelief, her mind gone as she turns to where the bong is, taking the lighter next to it and flicking it open. Sadie clicks the lighter on, placing the flame into the tube connected to the bong.
The sound of bubbling fills the room and Sadie breathes in the rising smoke coming from the tube placed over her mouth. Dropping the bong onto her lap, she blows the smoke out of her mouth, giggling as she does. Sadie understands now why Nick took drugs in the first place, realizing that her mind was too scrambled to articulate any depressing or suicidal thoughts — she could get around to doing this everyday, she didn't mind her blurry vision or the room swirling around her because at least she wasn't thinking of cutting open her skin.
Sadie never expected a bible study to be this fun, she had only came with Alicia as the teen insisted she did so, badgering her about it all day and promising that if Sadie didn't have fun she could leave immediately. Alicia looks at the undead in the bird cage—Geoff—she stares for what feels like a century before she starts laugh. Everyone, including Sadie, join in.
"He wants to know where you're from." Gretchen speaks up after the laughter stops, head close to the cage as she pretends to listen to the imaginary demands of the undead. "El Sereno, Los Angeles, California." Alicia smiles and Sadie clinks her glass of beer with the teen's in response. "America, North America, Earth."
Gretchen chuckles and the head of Geoff snarls, "Geoff wants to know what it's like out there," A teen boy asks, Sadie never cared to learn his name. She blankly stares into space as Alicia answers, "Chaos. Ruin. And it changes you." She gestures to the undead, "Not like Geoff. Something worse."
Sadie points over to the undead, still giddy off the feeling of the weed swirling around her lungs, "Can I ask Geoff something?" Her voice slurs and Gretchen leans over to Geoff, his snarls loud as she says, "Sure."
