Kiara’s POV

"Mom, when will you come here?" I asked tearfully during our video chat.

"Sorry, Kiara. I really can't come there these days. Your tito Kennedy is currently working abroad, and your siblings are still young," my mom replied with a hint of sadness.

Her words hit me hard. Memories of my own childhood abandonment resurfaced. I was younger than my siblings when she left me to take care of them.

The video chat ended, leaving me with a mix of emotions. She spoke of my graduation and the possibility of me going to Scotland, but what stuck with me was the realization that I was once the young one left behind.

Just as I was about to break down, my loyal companion, Sofie, entered the room and looked at me with her loving eyes. I embraced her, finding solace in her presence.

It never ceased to amaze me how much love and comfort a dog could give, even more than some people in our lives.

As my hunger pangs reminded me of the time, Sofie and I shared a cute moment. Her tail wagged, and I couldn't help but smile at her adorableness.

---

Evening arrived, and I prepared myself for the final examination tomorrow. I needed to get a good night's sleep to be at my best.

Jake hadn't reached out to me all day. He was probably out with his friends, enjoying their time at some upscale bar.

I understood his lifestyle and didn't blame him for it. But sometimes, I wished he would make more of an effort to be there for me, especially during my tough moments.

Jake’s POV

In an upscale bar, surrounded by friends, the drinks flowed freely as we laughed and had a great time.
I would have been very happy if Kiara were here, but she's not currently available because she has final exams tomorrow. Moreover, she already did me a favor last weekend when she came here with my friends, had some drinks, and had fun.
"Bro, did you and Kiara finally do the deed?" they teased, eager for some gossip.

I chuckled and shook my head. "No, we just went to the beach with Sofie and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful moment."

They all jeered, making jokes about my relationship with Kiara. But I didn't care about their words; my love for her was genuine.

We had our private issues to sort out, but I would never do anything to tarnish Kiara's reputation. She meant everything to me, and I couldn't bear the thought of hurting her.

While I might act differently with other girls at bars, Kiara was different—she was my world.

Feeling a bit tipsy, I closed my eyes to rest, but then I heard a familiar voice. To my surprise, Kiara had followed me here, her determination shining through.

My heart skipped a beat, amazed by her audacity. This girl was truly something else.
