"SO I TAKE it, you really like my daughter?" Mrs. Kim looked at me straight in the eye as I swallowed hard and nodded, sitting on my knees across from her in the middle of their living room.

"I love her... ma'am." I stated earnestly, palms flat on top of my knees as she stared at me seeming unconvinced but not surprised. I suppose, a part of her had already seen this coming because Y/N just wasn't the type to bring a "friend" home for Chuseok, no matter how close she was with the said friend. That, and because looking back now, anyone who'd seen us together during the past week and was unable to tell that we were a thing, was probably either blind or just plain stupid.

Determined not to be intimidated by Mrs. Kim's sharply analytical stare, I held her gaze confidently, all the while telling my heartbeat to calm down because this behaviour of hers was perfectly natural. What sane parent wouldn't want to interrogate the person their child was dating?

A layer of sweat coated my clammy palms as I couldn't help but tell myself repeatedly that no matter how unnerving this little encounter was, it was quite normal to try and gauge the intentions of the person you were supposed to entrust your daughter's heart to. Because as much as I hated this, I knew I'd do the fucking same.

In fact, thinking of interrogating my supposed daughter's supposed boyfriend in the future, a guy she supposedly loved, made me want to kill that guy already. An urge that was irrational and completely illegal and yet, as it felt to me, quite natural.

"We'll see about that." Mrs. Kim quipped, suddenly getting up to retrieve a huge glass jar from the cabinet behind her as I watched in confusion. The jar looked like it must have weighed at least ten kilos as she set it down on the table in front of me, causing the light golden liquid to slosh around inside.

Was that liquor?

"If Y/N's appa was alive, he would definitely have had a chat with you over alcohol. Drinking together and conversing man to man." She said, fixing me with a serious look as I nodded in understanding. "But since he's no longer here, it now falls upon my shoulders to see what is really inside your heart and gauge the true depth of the affection you claim to harbour for my daughter. And you know when a man voices his truest feelings and his innermost thoughts? It's when he's completely inebriated, too drunk off of alcohol to even think of lying."

I gulped. If I wasn't nervous before, I definitely was now. Not because I doubted my feelings for Y/N or had something to hide.

But because I wasn't nearly sure if the alcohol was enough to make me reach the stage of complete intoxication. And how it would reflect upon me if I didn't.

"Of course," I responded solemnly, watching as she regarded me carefully for another long second before nodding and proceeding to unscrew the jar's red plastic lid.

"Okay then," She pushed her lips together and set the lid down on the table, carefully ladling out some of the liquor into a glass before sliding it towards me. "Drink up." She said simply as I bowed and took the glass, turning to my side to drain the liquid in one go.
