This scene unfolds after Rule 59 when Jungkook realises that Y/N's melancholy mood due to the upcoming Beolcho service of her father might be having a negative effect on Jieun and takes her out to play.
THE KIM HOUSEHOLD was dreadfully quiet this afternoon, because after returning home from the columbarium, both Mrs. Kim and Y/N had silently retired to their respective bedrooms, leaving only me and little Jieun awake in the living room as she lay on her stomach, disinterestedly tossing around her colourful building blocks while I watched her uncharacteristically glum face with genuine concern.
"Jieun-ah, do you want to go to the park with me?" I finally addressed the little girl, hoping to cheer her up a little. Kids her age needed a lot of attention all the time and she probably felt lonely at being left alone in here while her mother and sister rested in their rooms.
"No." She whispered quietly, in formal Korean, as her lips tilted downwards in a sad pout.
"Hmm." I pretended to be deep in thought for a couple of seconds as she continued to blink up at me expectantly with her wide, brown eyes. Eyes that resembled a certain someone far too much for me to give up before I could see at least a little bit of happiness shining in them.
"In that case," I dragged out the syllables, tilting my head to the side as I shot her a mischievous grin. "Would you want oppa to take you to your eonni's room to sleep with her instead?"
The cheeky little tyke narrowed her eyes at that, her mouth twisting into a suspicious line.
"Aren't you just saying that because you want to sleep with my eonni?" She glanced at me like I was some sort of a shady, dishonest fraudster who she didn't trust at all, before lowering her head back down and propping her chin up on the back of her hands as I stared at her tiny form with mounting disbelief.
The thought hadn't even crossed my mind!
Okay, it had. But she didn't need to know that.
Besides, I was trying to cheer her up. Not the traitorous little prick in my pants.
"Absolutely not." I stated calmly with the straightest face that I could manage to pull. "Why would I want to sleep with your eonni? She's your sister, not mine."
"That's true." Jieun seemed satisfied with the argument as she nodded thoughtfully. "But I really don't want to sleep, oppa." She tilted her head to the side bored, her cheek squishing adorably against her hand and her fluffy pigtails bouncing with the movement.
I smiled, getting the strangest fraternal urge to pinch her cute little cheeks and flick her tiny ponytail until she had to smack my hand away.
"And that's why when eomma put me to sleep in her bed, I came out secretly." She admitted innocently, making me almost laugh out loud when her sweet voice lowered to a whisper at the word 'secretly'.
