Alright, yeah, I'll admit it. I may have gotten myself into a rather sticky situation, but that doesn't mean it's my fault. Of course, there isn't anyone else to blame the fault on, so it's probably looking like I'm a complete idiot at the moment. It doesn't matter though.
Assassinating the literal leader of our country seemed like a pretty big deal when I thought about it, but now that I'm sitting on the rooftop, watching him from afar, it seems so insignificant, like it was something that could just happen and then be forgotten. Sure, killing this man would mean we'd have our chance, and my father could finally take back what was once his. But still, shooting a guy who wasn't even paying attention didn't exactly feel right.
Well, I thought bitterly to myself. Not that he cared about what was right when he fought my father.
I adjusted the mask on my face, pulling it up the bridge of my nose, making sure the only thing visible on my face between the mask and the hood was my eyes. My finger, laying lightly on the trigger, felt numb. Despite the gloves over my hands, the frigid air felt like needles piercing the skin of my hands as I struggled to aim the gun correctly. I'd never had a problem with aiming before but for some reason, it seemed all too much today.
I watched wearily as the car slowly made its way closer to the building I was perched atop, knowing this was my chance.
"Hey," the voice ringing in my earpiece, which I had forgotten I had on, caused me to flinch just the slightest bit. "Are you gonna shoot or what? This is your chance!"
"I know, Jisung!" I hissed quietly, even though no one would hear me from down on the street.
"I'm on the ground, I'll be ready when you shoot."
I nodded even though he couldn't see me. I averted my eyes from the man for a second to find out where my partner was standing. He was right where we had planned him to be, blending in easily with the crowd despite his dark blue hair. My eyes were back on the target as soon as I found Jisung. The car was inches away from the position I would shoot at. My grip tightened around the gun. My heart was thumping loudly in my ears, drowning out the screaming crowd below as they cheered for their fearless leader, who was standing in the back of an open-roof car, smiling and waving at the people as he passed.
"Any second now," Jisung whispered through the earpiece.
My finger pressed slightly against the trigger, not enough to fire, but just getting ready. The car was there, right where I wanted it. Alright. It's time.
I pulled the trigger.
Well, you can guess what happened next. It would be way too easy to simply kill him in one shot.
Pain shot up my arm as I was suddenly tackled to the ground. The gunshot was ringing in my ears as I realized I had been attacked just as I squeezed the trigger. I cursed under my breath as I was thrown to the ground a second time.
"What the hell are you doing?" the person who had attacked me now sat on top of me, pinning my arms to the ground after kicking my gun away.
I looked up at them, trying to figure out where I had heard that voice before. I couldn't see their face. They had some sort of weird helmet thing covering their features, almost like a Storm Trooper but navy blue and a lot less cool looking. The person lifted one hand, which began glowing with some sort of light.
I cursed again before throwing the person off of me. It wasn't even a second later when my feet left the solid roof of the building, and then I was in the air.
It took me a second to stable myself, looking down at the chaos caused by the shot I had fired, seeing that it had hit its target, but only in the shoulder. A faint wave of dizziness washed over me, my fear of heights conflicting with the power I had been training to use for years. It's stupid that I'm scared of heights since I know I can't fall anyway. Below, people were screaming frantically, pushing past each other in an attempt to get away from the situation. I caught sight of Jisung in the chaos. He had ripped his face mask off, his hands in front of him as the car the leader was in came to a stop, the parts of the car rearranging themselves according to the motions of his hands. I heard someone shout out that Jisung was there, referring to him as 'that mechanic villain,' which I knew Jisung would be offended about later.
