"I will destroy this world just to have you."

"If one day, I lose control... Destroy Mondstadt.... Destroy everything... Can I rely on you to stop me?"

You remembered his words clear as day. At the time, you wanted to believe nothing like that would ever happen. You thought he was just worried without much of a reason. It was Albedo, always calm and collected, what could make him do those things?

But as you watched the smoke rise as flames and rubble filled the streets of the City of Freedom, you finally understood just how real that request was.

You didn't know what it was that finally did it, broke his mind, but the reason was unimportant when innocent lives were at stake.

The Knights didn't have much of a plan for this situation, but you had to make due with what you had. Jean delegated the individual squads, instructing them to search through the city and evacuate as many civilians as possible.

Once their tasks were complete, they were to stay with the townspeople while the remaining Knights dealt with the... threat.

You were devastated, barely able to believe he could cause so much suffering in so little time. You gripped the gadget he gave you not too long ago when his mind was still sound, "why is this happening...?"

"Doesn't matter why. What matters is that we get him under control before the destruction spreads." Diluc interrupted your thoughts as he adjusted his gloves, ready for battle. While he wasn't with the Knights any more, the safety of the people took precedence before his personal disagreements.

"I know you care for him, (Y/N)." Jean put her hand on your shoulder reassuringly, "but-"

"I know. I know. You don't have to say it. We have to defeat him, no matter the cost." You nodded, taking a deep breath before equipping your weapon, stashing the device in your small bag at your side.

You heard an explosion outside the building you've taken shelter in just as Venti was thrown into the outer wall. The impact broke the wall as his battered body landed by your feet.

He coughed, not wasting a moment before getting back on his feet, "Hate to break it to you, but I can't exactly beat him on my own without my gnosis."

"Even then, I doubt it would be of much help." Kaeya commented as you all glanced out the hole in the wall, "I doubt anyone can take him on alone when he's like this."

Albedo was in full attack mode. Now that he temporarily lost sight of Venti, his attacks seemed to become more area effective as if to break as much as he could.

"Oh dear, he's truly gone completely rabid..." Lisa winced as another building collapsed in a large cloud of dust.

"We won't solve anything by just standing around." Diluc growled, leading the charge as you all rushed toward the feral alchemist, your attacks synchronizing into a big elemental reaction that took Albedo by surprise.

"There you are." He said, his voice and intonation completely alien from the Albedo you knew, "my dear friends, Mondstadt's protectors."

None of you responded as you bombarded him with various attacks, elemental and physical alike. You hoped overwhelming would somehow get him to stop or at least slow down his advance.

As minutes passed, he managed to get rid of you, picking you off one by one and rendering you unable to fight.

First to go was Kaeya as he attempted to shield Diluc from a particularly devastating attack. His shield may have taken the worst of it, but the blast still knocked him hundreds of feet back as he collapsed to the ground where he stayed for the rest of the fight. Condition unknown.
