Chapter 8

The door was already open, waiting for later guests to file in. The sound of laughter and chatter hit her ears as soon as Ace walked into the room. It smelled of strong lavender and a hint of alcohol and wine. "Welcome! Captain Levi, i see that you are doing well for yourself!" The man said, looking Ace up and down. "And oh my goodness, Commander Erwin! Looking fine as ever!" Erwin did look very handsome tonight. He wore a grey suit with a blue tie. Petra was Erwins date, they had been married for about a year now, and were a perfect couple.

Ace's grip tightened around Levis arm, because she was startled by the sudden interaction. "Ah Keith, what a pleasure to see you. I trust you are in good health?" Erwin replied to his comment. Keith Shadis was the one who was throwing this party this year. All though he had retired a couple years back, he is still very well known in all of the regiment's. Erwin, Petra, and Shadis were talking when Levi nudged Ace. "Gotta grab a drink." Ace nods her head and lets Levi take her along. "Sir, you really don't like gatherings, do you?" The only answer she got, was a click of his tongue.

Levi was already so sick and tired of this party. All he wanted to do was drink. He was going to control himself, it was more professional that way. They had been there for about 40-45 minutes already and Levi was going to lose it. Shadis was old, so i guess Levi could possibly let it slide, but the way he looked at Ace made his stomach tie in knots. He was like a loin, looking for his next meal. Levi was never fond of Shadis, but had to respect him no matter what due to his status in the Survey Corps.

But in all honesty, who did he think he was. Looking at another mans date like that. Levi grabbed the strongest thing he could find on the table poured a hefty glass. Ace was nervous about how her Captain was acting, she shuffled on her feet and started biting her nails. It's become a really bad habit for her sense last she can remember. "Oi, stop doin' that, its bad for your finger nails and makes you look stupid." Levi mentioned. He sounded so rude, but Ace understood. It was a public, fancy place.

Ace mentioned to Levi that they should find Erwin, but to this he responded with, "Erwin is fine Matsuri, he is just going to be a prick anyway. Such a suck-up to all of the people around him." Levi smirked. The Captain was definitely tipsy, letting himself go more then he should be when at a gathering. And Ace knew that, even though she had never been to one. This wasn't something Levi Ackerman would do. Ever, regardless of the situation. So why the hell would he start now? What caused such a large change in his mood? Ace knew he didn't like gatherings, but she didn't think he hated them so much so that he would get drunk.

Ace managed to drag Levi back to Erwin, as she was getting uncomfortable and more tired as the night went on. Her feet started to hurt more, as she was practically carrying the man beside her. "Commander, im sorry of this is disrespectful, but is the Captain always like this?" Ace tilted her head toward the man slouching beside her. "Levi? What on earth? Are you drunk??" Erwin sounded so genuinely confused it made Ace feel on edge. Had he really never seen him drunk?

"Me? Drunk? Oh please Erwin, I am not, just trying to put this cadet through hell. You know i don't like gatherings. Why not make them fun?" Levi mentioned, suddenly not slurring his words, and standing up straight. Ace's mouth fell wide open. But he had been drinking a large amount, how is he not drunk??

There was suddenly a large bang coming from the other side of the room, catching everyones attention. Ace felt Levi tense quicker then she had earlier when they saw what made the noise. He remembered who was coming to this party, someone who Levi never wished to see again. Ace looked at Levi, his eyes were wide, his breathing was sporadic and his mouth was slightly parted. "Kenny." Levi said, barley above a whisper.

"Hello everybody!! Sorry, did i break that? My bad, Shadis get your maids or something, you must be rich! I mean, look at this place! Its huge! And is that more liquor, just for me?? Thank you very much." The man yelled. He did not have fancy attire on whatsoever. He had a cowboy hat on, a white shirt with so many stains you can barley call it white and some brown pants. As he walked over to the liquor, boots clacking on the floor, he looked over their way.

"Now is that who i think it is? Mr Levi Ackerman, remember me, Nephew?" He yelled over, across the whole ballroom. Levi's nostrils flared. He was so tense Ace had lost feeling in her arm, it was so painful, tears were starting to well in her eyes. She was certain everyone was looking straight at them. Ace was so focused on the pain she was in that she didn't realize that Kenny had called Levi his nephew. The only sound that could be heard was boots clicking towards Ace and Levi.

"C'mon Levi," He said, tilting Levi's head up. "Still as short as always I see. You better start talkin' to your uncle." He smelt heavily of alcohol, like he was already drinking before he got here. "What do you have over here, Levi?" Kenny's gaze moving to Ace. "What a pretty lookin' thing you've got." Kenny said, twirling his fingers in Ace's hair. Her stair never faltered, even though she had never felt more scared in her life.

"Dont. Touch. Her. Kenny. Get your nasty ass hands away from her." Levi spat, venom dripping from his voice. Kennys head snapped toward Levi, and in less then a second, Kennys hands were around Levi's neck.
