A boy looking down at a dead body would surely make them cry, right?
Well... this certain boy... he was different. He was looking down on a sight he would surely never forget.
His Father... dead, killed himself of their prayer log...
Along with his dog, Jack, on the large cross... crucified.
Although he didn't cry... looking down at his body, seeing he had stabbed himself... wasn't at all surprising to him...
Willard Russell thought that sacrificing the dog, would cure his wife, Charlotte, of her cancer, and save her.
But she died the same day this happened... and wherever Charlotte went, Willard followed.
The boy was called Arvin, and he had a perfect life before his mother got diagnosed with cancer...
His parents were in a happy marriage, they loved their dog, and there was no fighting, no arguing, no pain...
Now, he was sitting outside his house, pie all over his face, waiting for the cops to come get his Dad...
A nice man in the street next door had called them.
The policeman came over, and asked the man what had happened, and he explained the situation.
"Is that blood your face?" The officer asked.
"No." The boy replied "Somebody left us a pie."
Arvin went to show the officer where his Dad was, and where the dog was, the officer was shocked beyond belief.
He decided to take him to the station, to see if he had any family that could look after him.
The boy sat in the back of the car, and the man shut the door as he sat down in the driver's seat,
"Who's gonna bury Jack?" Arvin asked.
"I don't know." The officer replied "I don't know who's gonna touch that thing."
He had never seen nothing like this before...
"Look kid.." He sighed, looking to him "My Daddy didn't do anythin' your Daddy did up there. But he did up and leave me, my mama and my sister... He just went off to the shoe factory one mornin' and never came back, and there was nothin' left to do but forget his sorry ass..."
Arvin didn't really understand then, but he would soon learn that he would go and live with his Grandma and Uncle, have a sister, grow up properly and happily...
And one day, his life would change... drastically. Making the boy come full circle, and back to this very spot.
"Some people were born just to be buried."
And that very sentence... carries him through those days.
420 Words (Not Including This)
Another story! This one has been in my drafts for ages, but I finally finished it.
I love this film, I think it's excellent and extremely underrated. All the actors, music, writing, it's amazing.
I really recommend the book!
