Eventually, they got a ride to Ohio. A nice man picked them up, and said he was passing the town, and offered. They were both a little nervous at first considering what happened the first time, but when they were an hour into the drive, they were certain that they were safe now.
The man pulled into a small town, and stopped in front of a shop. Arvin and Y/n got out of the car, and he drove away.
"So this is where you grew up." Y/n smiled.
"Well, I did some of the growin' here." He said.
"Howdy." A man greeted, sitting in a chair out the front of the store. "You two look like you've been travelin'."
"Yeah." They both nodded.
"Where you headed?" The man asked.
"There used to be a house and a barn up on the hill over there." Arvin motioned backward "Some lawyer owned it. You know it?"
"Sure I do." He replied "Up in the Mitchell Flats."
"Still there?" The man looked at him, and his eyes widened slightly,
"Well I'll be damned." He said "You're that Russell boy, ain't ya?"
"Yeah. Here to show the Misses where I grew up, just seein' as we were this way." Arvin nodded, and motioned to Y/n while smile.
"Nice to meet you, sir." Y/n greeted.
"And you." He smiled, but then it fell as he stood up "Son, I hate to tell you this but that place burned some years ago. They think some kids did it. Wasn't anybody livin' there since you folks."
"Well, we've come all this way." Y/n said "Might as well go see it anyway."
"Sure, just cut across Clarence's pasture, he won't mind." The man said kindly. Arvin took Y/n's hand and started to walk, but stopped again,
"I never did thank you for the night my Dad died." The boy said "You were awful kind to me, and I just want you to know that I ain't never forgot it."
"You had pie smeared all across your face." He said fondly "Damn Bodecker thought it was blood. Remember that?"
"Yeah, I remember everythin' about that night." Arvin hung his head, and Y/n squeezed his hand in comfort.
"He ain't the lawman I expected." The man continued "Shame about his sister though."
"Why? What happened?" Y/n asked.
"Well, his sister and her husband were found dead. Not far from Meade."
Arvin and Y/n's hearts dropped at the same time. They killed the sheriffs sister!
"You come back here. We'll sit down and drink some beer." The man didn't pick up on their faces now white as sheets.
"We'll do just that. Thank you." Y/n said, as Arvin dragged her away in a hurry.
"Where do we go now? The Sheriff is probably on to us!" Y/n exclaimed, as they entered a wooded part of the town.
"It's alright. We've got time." He reassured, trying to find a specific part of the woods "Besides... I need to do something."
Y/n continued to follow her boyfriend into the woods, which she learned was full of hills and fallen down trees. But eventually, Arvin found a secluded area, covered with leaves. But the first thing that you would notice, was a huge wooden cross.
Arvin took a shaky breath and stared at the cross...
It was covered with branches, nd the wood had turned a funny colour... but it still looked the same to him.
