Donna heard a knock at the door.
"Who the hell..." She muttered to herself, putting down her book. She looked out her window, and saw a boy standing on the doorstep, holding a piece of paper.
"Can I help you?" She asked kindly.
"U-Uh yeah. Um..." The boy looked at the piece of paper. "Are you Donna Teagardin?"
"I don't go by that last name anymore, but yes, why?"
"Um... I-I'm Arvin Russell, ma'am... I knew your daughter, Y/n."
The woman's facial expression softened at the mention of her beloved daughter.
"Well... you better come in then."
"Thank you, ma'am."
Arvin walked through the door to see a lovely home. Cozy and welcoming. He put the paper in his pocket,
"Beautiful home." He said, putting his bag on the floor by the door.
"Thank you, Arvin." She smiled. "Would like you somethin' to drink?"
"Uh, just water please, thank you, ma'am."
"That's alright, hon. Have a seat." She smiled.
She looked like her... and talked like her as well...
Arvin say down on the couch, and looked around. It's been a while since he's been in a house, since he was travelling, in and out of motels and streets.
It was a nice change.
He just wishes it was for different reasons, and not to tell a woman that her daughter was dead...
"So," Donna sat down next to him, putting his drinks down, and holding hers "How is my sweet daughter?"
Here we go...
"Ma'am... I've come here to tell you that... that... Y/n passed away... about a week ago."
The woman's face fell instantly. Her hands began to shake, and the liquid in the glass in her hand shook as well.
Arvin hated this, the first time she's met Y/n's mother, it was telling her the news no mother wants to hear.
"W-What?" She asked barely audible. "How?"
Arvin tried not to cry, so he swallowed,
"She was shot... tryin' to save me..."
The woman set her drink on the table next to her, and put her hand over her mouth, to try and suppress her sobs.
"H-How... Oh lord! Why..." She cried.
Arvin let a few tears lose as well. Donna saw this,
"Arvin... was she alone?"
"No." He said firmly "I was with her. I buried her where she died..."
"Thank you." She sniffed "You must have really cared for her..."
"What kind of husband would I be if I didn't bury my wife when she died?"
Donna then realised that she was talking to her son-in-law... and her face contorted in more sympathy.
"Oh my dear boy..." She cupped his cheek "You married her?"
"I wish it was for longer..." Arvin said, not caring anymore if she saw the tears from his eyes pour.
Donna smiled softly, she could see in his glassy eyes that he loved her... deeply.
"Tell me, Arvin. How did she grow? What was her life like?"
The man took a different piece of paper from his pocket... it was a picture of him and her.
She was kissing his cheek, and he was smiling widely....
"She's so beautiful." Donna said, more tears welling her eyes.
"She is... most beautiful creature on this planet." He said, recalling him saying that to her they first time they made love.
From there, Donna and Arvin bonded over their love for Y/n Teagardin.
He told her everything...
From meeting her, to the day she died. He told her every detail he could remember... and she was so grateful for him.
She smiled, cried and laughed at what a person her beautiful daughter turned out to be. The way that Arvin was describing her, with so much passion and love, made her heart soar.
"I'm so sorry for your family, Arvin." She said to him.
"That's okay... but I'm sorry about you're... ex-husband."
"...Me too. He used to be such a gentle man... but ever since he became a preacher... it just changed him." She explained.
"She fought so hard..." Arvin sighed "Y/n stood up to her Daddy, after all that he did... she was strong, and she didn't even know it."
Donna looked at him...
"I don't think you're a bad person, Arvin." She put her hand on his arm "None of this is you're fault... you did what was right."
"Really?"
"Yes... as a matter of fact, you're too good of a person to be travellin' like this... I want you to stay with me."
Arvin looked at her in shock,
"No, I can't. If the authorities turn up, they'll arrest you too!" He exclaimed.
"I don't care... now that I have clarity on my daughter... I feel at peace." She explained.
These words brought tears to his eyes... and he nodded.
"Thank you ma'am." He whispered.
"Please... call me Donna." She said...
"Now, tell me more about my wanted daughter."
